We are in an economy which more and more is being politically directed and
ordered.
- Louis T. Rader
Presented By : Anamica Ibrahim (99)
Dual Ideology
Most businessmen are victims of dual economic
ideology.
In one hand arguing for free enterprise and in another
decrying unrestrained competition.
Modern concepts of competition and laissez fair
To modern businessmen, Laissez faire means minimum
interference with his pursuit of self-interest and maximum
support of his endeavors. Being a system of thoughts it means-
 The individual is the basic unit of society
 The individual has a natural right to freedom
 Harmonious & self-regulating system
 Corporations are the creatures of the state.
Topic 2 : THE BUSINESS IMAGE
Presented By : Ezazul Haque (122)

image for hundreds of years. The elements that encourage
business image are-
 Job opportunities
 Investment opportunities
 Constant flow of new & improved product
 Reputation of company & it’s brand
 Business policies

TOPIC : 3 HOW MUCH GOVERNMENT
Presented By : Sanjida Haque (87)
Social philosophies of pragmatism, social Darwinism, and the protestant ethic suggest that,
“The best Government is The last Government”. The certain government intervention is
necessary….
The concept of Functionalism :Big Business Big Government :
Originally the rationale for increasing government
involvement in the social system was to limit and
control the growth and power of big business. But
business has continued to grow. So has the size and
power of government.
Social functions should be performed by the institutions which
can do them most efficiently.
National defense, reclamation, and policing activities are
appropriate functions for government.
The vital partnership: The Public-Private Corporation:
As our society becomes more complex and as social
problems become more severe, there is an increasing
recognition of the need for joint action by business and
government.
Public-Private corporations are the result of attempts to identify a
specific public purpose and fulfill those purposes by utilizing the
resources and managerial capabilities of private business. Here public
acts as objective and private acts as activity.
TOPIC : 4 THE ROLE OF GOVERNMENT
Presented By : Famila Binte Mowla ( 127)
Role of Government
The government will rationalize its role in business with three
key objectives: to avoid crowding out the private sector, to
increase liquidity in capital markets, and to improve the
government’s fiscal position.
Setting objectives Directing resources
• Rule making
• Seeking national objectives
• Providing political capacity to achieve objectives
• Providing funds
• Accepting public accountability
• Formulating social objectives
• Define problems
• Articulating desired results
• Organizing the effort to remake the society
• Through both consumers & producers
• Through government action
TOPIC : 5 THE ROLE OF BUSINESS
Presented By : Emran Hossain (166)
The fundamental role of business has remained relatively constant: providing the goods and
services that people need or want. What has changed dramatically over time are the
expectations placed on businesses.
Profit:
Making profit is the primary objective of business. It is
said that, management has a social responsibility to
make profit.
Product Decisions:
The role of business has been to make product decisions on
behalf of society, thereby allocating resources to the
production of goods & services it believed society wanted.
Assisting Government:
The most urgent and essential social responsibility of business
is to contribute to the building of a mare adequate political
structure and authority based on a clearer, more explicit, and
more realistic ideology.
TOPIC 6 : BUSINESS IN POLITICS
Presented By : Fuad Hassan (105)
Corporate political involvement enhances the quality of pluralism and provides an
additional safeguard against the authoritarian potential of a mass society.
Need for business involvement :
Most businessmen feel that there is an increasing need for
business involvement and that business can and should
influence government whether appropriate.
Proper political activities for
business:
Financial support &The Corrupt
Practices Act:
 Should support the government by advising for
national policy making.
 Should support issues, not candidates.
 Should oppose issues that are unfavorable for
business.
Some believe that business can contribute to election
procedure and some other thinking that election
should publically financed.
Providing information:
Because of their knowledge & experience, business leaders are qualified to make judgments about business
related issues. So providing information about business related issues is a proper political function for
business.
Lobbing:
Lobbing means competitive gaining. Expected behavior of
lobbing are-
 The action should not condemn the entire process.
 The process should be communicated and getting close to
legislature to design response.
 Blackmailing must be prohibited.
Business in politics:
By political involvement, business are often in an excellent
position to influence governmental policy in the same way that
leaders of other pluralistic groups are able to do.
