In one hand arguing for free enterprise and in another
decrying unrestrained competition.
Modern concepts of competition and laissez fair
To modern businessmen, Laissez faire means minimum
interference with his pursuit of self-interest and maximum
support of his endeavors. Being a system of thoughts it means-

12. The concept of Functionalism :Big Business Big Government :
Originally the rationale for increasing government
involvement in the social system was to limit and
control the growth and power of big business. But
business has continued to grow. So has the size and
power of government.
Social functions should be performed by the institutions which
can do them most efficiently.
National defense, reclamation, and policing activities are
appropriate functions for government.
13. The vital partnership: The Public-Private Corporation:
As our society becomes more complex and as social
problems become more severe, there is an increasing
recognition of the need for joint action by business and
government.
Public-Private corporations are the result of attempts to identify a
specific public purpose and fulfill those purposes by utilizing the
resources and managerial capabilities of private business. Here public
acts as objective and private acts as activity.

services that people need or want. What has changed dramatically over time are the
expectations placed on businesses.

Making profit is the primary objective of business. It is
said that, management has a social responsibility to
make profit.
Product Decisions:
The role of business has been to make product decisions on
behalf of society, thereby allocating resources to the
production of goods & services it believed society wanted.

The most urgent and essential social responsibility of business
is to contribute to the building of a mare adequate political

Because of their knowledge & experience, business leaders are qualified to make judgments about business
related issues. So providing information about business related issues is a proper political function for
business.

Lobbing means competitive gaining. Expected behavior of
lobbing are-
The action should not condemn the entire process.
The process should be communicated and getting close to
legislature to design response.
Blackmailing must be prohibited.
27. Business in politics:
By political involvement, business are often in an excellent
position to influence governmental policy in the same way that
leaders of other pluralistic groups are able to do.
