This presentation summarizes an infrared and Bluetooth based home automation system using a microcontroller. It includes an overview of the system's block diagram, hardware requirements including an ATmega328P microcontroller, Arduino board, HC-05 Bluetooth module, infrared module, relays, and power supply. The presentation describes how the system allows controlling home appliances like fans, lights and TVs using a remote or smartphone app via Bluetooth or infrared signals. It highlights advantages like remote control and convenience, as well as limitations like a small control range and number of connected devices.

6. INTRODUCTION
Home automation
Home automation is anything that enables you to
use your home’s lighting, heating and appliances
more conveniently and efficiently.
It can be as simple as remote or automatic
control of a few lights, or it can be a complete
system that controls all major parts of your home,
custom set to your own personal preference.
Home automation is anything that gives you
remote or automatic control of things around the
home.
The aim of this getting started guide is to give
you an unbiased view of what’s available and
help you make an informed choice of what home
automation technologies best fit your needs and
budget.
7. INTRODUCTION
Home Automation gives you access to control devices in
your home from a mobile device anywhere in the world.
Lighting, appliances, electrical outlets, heating and
cooling systems– are hooked up to a Bluetooth
controllable network.
Provide improved convenience, comfort, energy,
efficiency and security
Why home automation
8. Infrared and Bluetooth based home automation using microcontroller :
For Inferred
Anyone and can control their Home appliance (fan, light, TV ) can
switching by a remote module..
For Bluetooth
Anyone and can control their Home appliance (fan, light, TV )
can switching by using smart phone over Bluetooth technology.
This system is combination of Bluetooth and Infrared technology. Both of these
technologies are most common side in our daily life
INTRODUCTION
10. HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS
Microcontroller(ATMEGA 328P)
Development Board(Arduino uno)
Bluetooth Module ( HC-05)
Infrared radiation (IR module)
Relay(5v DC, 4 channel)
Power Supply (9V DC, 600mA)
11. ATMEGA 328P
It is a high-performance
Microchip Pico Power 8-bit
AVR RISC-based
microcontroller.
Internal and external
interrupts,
A byte-oriented 2-wire serial
interface, SPI serial port,
6-channel 10-bit A/D
converter programmable
watchdog timer with internal
oscillator.
The device operates
13. ARDUINO UNO
Arduino UNO is an open-source electronics platform based on easy-to-use
hardware and software. Arduino boards are able to read inputs - light on a sensor,
a finger on a button and turn it into an output.
14. BLUETOOTH MODULE - HC-05
For the communication
between mobile phone and
microcontroller Bluetooth
module(HC-05) is used.
HC-05 is low power 1.8V
operation and is easy to
use with Bluetooth
SPP(serial port protocol).
Serial port Bluetooth
module have a Bluetooth
2.0+EDR (enhanced data
rate).
15. INFRARED RADIATION (IR)
It is an open, digital cellular technology used
for transmitting signal.
Infrared radiation (IR) is electromagnetic radiation (EMR) with
longer wavelengths than those of visible light, and is therefore
generally invisible to the human eye
It is sometimes called infrared light.

IR Remote Control.
HX1838 remote module.
838 Universal Receiving Head.
Components
Infrared radiation (IR)
16. 1. Sensor uses HX1838, high sensitivity.
2. Operating voltage 5V.
3. Output form: Digital output.
4. VCC: 3.3V-5V external voltage (can be directly connected to the
5v microcontroller and 3.3v microcontroller).
5. GND: external GND.
6. IN: external microcontroller I/O port, I/O port has been designed
10K pull-up resistor.
7. Kit theory test distance of about 5-8 meters, but the practical
application depends on the ambient factors you use, as well as the
middle barrier (such as diaphragm, glass, obstructions or other
material blocking), receiving head with HX1838 with power work
instructions lights, receive 38K frequency any remote coding data
INFRARED RADIATION (IR)
Description
17. Relay
It is basically an electromagnetic switch which can be
turn on and off by an applying the voltage across its
contacts.
In this project we have used a TONGLING
5V DC 10A 4-channel relay. It is a
combination of four relay.
RELAY
18. POWER UNIT
We have used a 9V 600mA power supply
9V 600mA step down transformer
Full bridge rectifier circuit
A Capacitor as filter
Components:
19. The step down transformer is one whose
secondary voltage is less than its primary
voltage. It is designed to reduce the voltage
from the primary winding to the secondary
winding.
Rectifier is an electrical device which converts
an alternating current into a direct one by
allowing a current to flow through it in one
direction only.
A capacitor for filtering the output DC voltage

21. Arduino IDE : Arduino Integrated Development
Environment - or Arduino Software (IDE)
contains a text editor for writing code, a
message area, a text console, a toolbar with
buttons for common functions and a series of
menus. It connects to the Arduino and Genuino
hardware to upload programs and communicate
with them.
Bluetooth Control It is an android application
which is used to transmitting and receiving data
to microcontroller.
SOFTWARE USED
22. Code of this project is written in C++ language by using arduno IDE compiler.
