Human beings pass through sequential stages. Each stage
has its own features and characteristics.
The period of development of an individual can be broadly
divided into two as follows
PRENATAL
PERIOD
POST NATAL
PERIOD
PRE NATAL
PERIOD
Duration of time a child
spends in his mother’s
womb.
Development involves
three stages,
•Germinal Stage
•Embryonic Stage
•Fetal Stage
POST NATAL
PERIOD
It is divided as
Infancy
Early childhood
Later childhood
Adolescence
Adulthood
Old age
• (0-2 years)
• Bodily changes are rapid
• Development of brain, motor skills etc
• Affection and relationship with the
family members
INFANCY

• Stage from 2 to 6 years
• Child is able to button, cut simple
shapes.
• Recognize alphabets and numbers
• Affection, trust, occasional selfishness
• Values friendship, play more
interactively and imitate others
EARLY

• Stage from 6 to 12 year.
• Rapid growth and change.
• Beginning of puberty.
• Increasing attention and span of
concentration.
• Fluctuate between maturity and immaturity
• Social bond and friendship dominate
