Basic Civil Engineering first year Notes- Chapter 4 Building.pptx
Conic Section
1. You must have notice that a lot of shapes occurs in
our daily life depending on what we see in our
home, nature, school, buildings in our city and
other things that have shape.
10. • Illustrates the different type of conic sections: parabola
,ellipse, circle , hyperbola and degenerated cases
• Define the conic sections
• Illustrates the different type of conic section.
• Participate in the group activity.
11. In English
• What do you mean by the word CONIC?
• How about the word SECTION?
• Now connect that idea to each definition.
12. Let’s WATCH a video or
of Conics Section Model
How to visualize conic sections with a paper model..mp4
14. What is Cone?
A cone is a three dimensional object with a circular
base that tapers to a point (a vertex or Apex) that is
directly above the center of the base.
Let’s Recall Grade 6 Math
15. •Based on the video what do you mean
by Conic Section?
•How about parabola, ellipse, circle,
hyperbola, and degenerate cases?
Process Questions
16. What is Conic Section?
• Conics are formed when a plane intersect a double –
napped cone but not a vertex.
VERTEX
22. •Is it possible that you can form
Conics Section when you play
Basketball?
In MAPEH
23.
24. •Can you cite an example of Conics
Section inside your classroom?
•May I ask four volunteers to go the board
and draw an example of Conics Sections
32. Conic Sections
These concepts of Conics Section are
important for you to work on solving word
problems higher topics which applies also
the system of nonlinear equation.
33. GROUP ACTIVITY
• In 10 counts proceed go to your respective
groupings SILENTLY!
• The first group to form a circle will be given
additional of 5 points.
• The noisy group will be the one to report first.
34. Direction:
• Make an illustration or drawing of the following
situation.
• Identify in that situation whether it shows?
Justify your answer.
• Every correct illustration is 5 points.
• You only have 2 minutes to do the activity.
35. Scenario 1
A bridge has a parabolic arch that is 10m high in the center , 30m wide at the bottom
and arch 6m into the center.
Scenario 2
Tunnel through a mountain for a four lane highway is to have a elliptical opening. The
total width of the highway (not the opening) is to be 16m, and the height at the edge
of the road must be sufficient for a truck 4m high to clear if the highest point of the
opening is to be 5m approximately.
Scenario 3
Parabolic cable of a 60m portion of the roadbed of a suspension bridge
are positioned as shown below. Vertical Cables are to be spaced every
6m along this portion of the roadbed.
