Here is a rough draft of my narrated presentation. I know it is very long and wordy now, I will need to refine it and have a script so my narration is much smoother. Not happy at all with the narration/audio yet but the ideas are there!
Wk7proj Campbell, Tyler - Foundations of Research - Rough Draft
1. Tyler Campbell – Research
Project
This Presentation Includes:
An overview of your problem, including the background
and context
A high-level summary of the most important points
discovered during your review of literature
A step-by-step outline of your proposed
solution, including your rationale for your proposed
solution
Next steps that should be taken by you or your
stakeholders to initiate development of the solution
2. Problem Overview
• I was hired as a technology integration
specialist
• To help blend technology into learning and
enhance instructional effectiveness
• To implement 1-1 student device initiative
•
•
Design and implement device rollout
Currently working on High School rollout
•
•
Laptops for all high school students
Help train students and teachers on using
devices and how to use them to enhance
learning
3. Problem Overview
• School District is trying to transform
learning by:
•
•
•
•
•
Personalized learning
Implementing Competency-Based Grading
system (PBS – Performance Based System)
Increasing Rigor and better preparing learners
for the real, future world
Making learning engaging and empowering
students to become independent, self-directed
learners
10 million dollar Grant awarded by the US Dept
of Education
•
To further our Vision and PBS System
4. Problem Overview
• Lindsay Unified School District
•
•
•
•
Small farming town in CA central valley
High poverty rates
Opportunities are limited
LUSD Vision created by the community
•
Educators, parents, and the community formed
5. Problem Overview
• The main problem:
• For grades 9-12, what are the most
effective ways to rollout and employ 1-1
laptops for learners in the classroom to
enhance instructional
effectiveness, especially in regards to our
district vision and PBS infrastructure? How
to we create a sustainable system for
rollouts and tech use in the classroom that
can continue even after our 3 year
contracted integration team is gone?
6. Research on 1-1 Initiatives
• Schools the world over are trying to
effectively integrate technology into
education
• Many are trying 1-1 initiatives
• Some have been fairly unsuccessful
•
Plethora of reasons why
•
Poor planning, unsustainable, improper
infrastructure, insufficient training, ineffective
leadership, among many other reasons
7. Solution 1
• Core system of technology needs to be used
throughout the district
•
We need a district LMS (Learning Management
System) that can create a systematic way of:
•
•
•
•
•
Creating a digital learning environment
Can facilitate communication between students and
teachers
Can serve as a one-stop-shop for most of the core
functions of learning digitally
Host curriculum and serve as an assignment
tracker/distribution system
Learners/Teachers only have 1 tool they need to
learn that is consistent throughout the district
8. Solution 2
• Leadership must lead the tech paradigm
shift
• Leadership, including district and school
admin must effectively model tech use
• Enable time for both teachers and students
•
•
•
To learn how to use technology
To collaborate on effective methods
Consistent Professional Development on Tech
• Lead with strong, positive attitude that
embraces technology and change
•
Vision must be clearly communicated and
demonstrated, transparency is crucial
9. Solution 3
• Device Rollout system
• Sustainable, systematic method needs to be
developed for rolling out devices
• Process must be well-documented so that it
can be learned by staff and students that
will be needed to carry out yearly device
rollouts
10. Solution 4
• Progress Tracking System
• System must be developed to track and
monitor progress/results from experimental
implementation and classroom integration
strategies we employ
• Most effective tech implementation
strategies can be continued and ineffective
ones changed
• Pilot groups for various subjects to model
and test different tech use strategies
• We must try and measure progress
11. Solution 5
• Strong Cultural Shift to create positive
attitudes and helpful behavior towards
the change process
• Communication must be clear and
transparent so all stakeholders understand
what is happening and why
• Students and teachers must feel
empowered in order to embrace the
changes
• Technology’s role and potential to have a
positive impact on learning must be clearly
shown and celebrated
12. Solution 6
• Progression of technology use must be
clearly modeled and understood
• In order for teachers and students to
improve their technology use skills
• We must have clear models of progression
and examples for what it looks like
• SAMR model shows tech use in learning in a
progression
•
•
begins with doing traditional things in a digital
way
Ends up with learning in completely
new, inconceivable ways
13. How to Implement Solutions?
• To implement these ideas:
• Rationales must be developed to convince
stakeholders of the importance of these
ideas for solving the problems faced
• Examples must be developed for each idea
•
These examples must be tested thoroughly to
ensure they will be effective
• I must carry these ideas out as a core
component of my job to transform learning
through the use of technology
