4. Bad Joke of the Day
• What do you call a kid who doesn’t
believe in Santa?
5. Today’s Agenda
• Polls and Discussion
Question
• Career Highlight: College
admissions and
readiness
6. Teacher Communication
• Please answer the phone if your
teacher calls or return the phone call
• Calls are important to relay vital
information
• Set up your voicemail
• If you screen your calls, save your
teachers’ numbers in your phone
7. Teacher Communication Cont‘d
• Webmails are also very important
• If a webmail is titled with the
words: progress, greetings, or
academic intervention, it means
they are high priority
• These webmails require effort
on your part
• They are sent for your benefit
so that you are successful and
can graduate on time
8. Let’s Hit the Polls
• There are 2 polls:
• Who is your criminal justice teacher?
• MOST IMPORTANT POLL (attendance purposes)
• What type of school do you plan on attending?
• Feel free to share “why” in the answer pod
• Asynchronous learners: share through webmail
9. Let’s Hit the Polls Cont’d
• There are two open ended
questions
• What will be your major
in college/trade school?
Why?
• How do you plan on
paying for school?
Scholarships, grants,
loans? Military?
10. College • Scholarships, admissions
• Majors/minors
• Consider a lucrative major,
unless you are required to do
something specific for your
course of study
• Lucrative major helps if a CJ
job does not work out
• May not get hired
• May get injured
• If these two scenario
occur, Major in CJ
might be useless
11. RESEARCH!!!!
• Research your major:
• average salary
• average unemployment
rates, and so on
• Research programs for
different schools…one
school may have a better
program than others
12. Diversify Your Choices
• Apply to multiple schools
in case you don’t get
accepted to first choice.
• If you get wait listed,
consider a JUCO until you
are accepted
• Much easier to transfer
to a major school as a
JR than to begin as a
freshman
13. Funding
• First, check with your HS guidance
counselor regarding grants, scholarships
etc.
• Next, hit up the financial aid office at the
school to which you are applying
• ALWAYS go for “free” money first
• DO NOT finance entire degree
with loans
14. Tips for Success
• Set your self apart from the crowd
• Do well in High School for acceptance into a good
undergrad school.
• May need recommendation letters
• Many scholarships you have and keep a certain GPA
• Same for financial aid
• DO Community Service!
• Write an excellent essay
15. Quick Recap

• Focus point to consider
