1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
2. According to the theoristTurrow, genre provides creator with a
comfortable mould in which narrative can be explored whilst not stifling
creativity.
The genre of my music video “light up the sky” by Ada Satka is pop.The
song is upbeat and catchy which allows it to fall into the mainstream.
3. Camera Shots : Positioning of the
camera is key within this genre as the
use of close ups allows the cheery and
upbeat emotions of the artist to be
presented.
Camera Movement: Is necessary in
following the artist/band to keep the
narrative going.
Mise-en-Scene:
The Richmond Park shoot took
place at night but with the use of
sparklers and flash lights I was able
to create bright scene which is a
convention within the pop genre.
Another one of our locations was in
London which was very bright
because of the screens in Piccadilly
circus and the fact that we shot the
scene at midday, this links to the
convections as it makes the scene
very colourful.
Northolt hill was the third location
we shot. Again it was dark because
of the shoot taking place at night
however the busy road behind gave
a lot of light because of cars head
lights.
4. According to the theorist
Goodwin another main
convention of the music video’s
is a star image which suggests
that the artist is always dressed
fashionably and is the main
focus.
The outfits that were presented
in my music videos are mostly
casual and simple but are what
is seen as in style.
Comparisons I made to real media
products were:
SelenaGomez in her
“Birthday” video
Demi Lavato in her “Made in
the USA” video
Taylor Swift in her “22” video
5. The use of blooper/messing around
shot, I believe are a convention to
the pop genre.
It presents an element of fun that i
feel translates to the audience and
gives a positive vibe to the music
video.
During research I found that its a
convection that takes place in many
real media products. An example i
found was the music video to “I like it
like that” by Hot Chelle Rae where it
cuts between backstage footage of
the band having fun.
6. “Don’t matter what yesterday was like” “Tomorrow could be paradise.”
Another conventionGoodwin sees as important is that music videos show a
link between the lyrics and the visuals .An example form my music video is the
change from night to day during the lyrics “ Don't matter what yesterday was
like, tomorrow could be paradise”.
7. The convention that there needs to be a link between the lyrics
and the visuals holds more of an importance to other genres
however I felt it adds to the music video by illustrating the lyrics
rather than having music play over random footage.
“All I see is flashing lights” “I wanna dance like never before”
8. An example of links between the sound and visuals is where
there is a moment when the music becomes distorted and
the narrative of the video breaks off to bloopers before
returning back to the song. This is another key convention
the Goodwin states as important to a music video.
9. A convention that is key to music video is editing to the beat of a
song. An example from my music video is where the artist walks
along a road and when the lyrics say “to-to-tonight” the edit
rewinds her and continues.
“Tonight we’ll light up the sky....To-to-tonight, tonight. ”
10. The use of slow motions is another element
that many music videos use, to emphasis on a
certain moment or during a part where the
pace of the song has slowed down.
11.
12.
13. The Front cover
An image that focuses around the artist
to allow the audience recognise the
product being sold to them.
Titles are used to grab the attention of
the audience which why they are usually
presented in bold.
The Inside
There must be a consistency throughout
the product.Which why for my digipak i
used images taken during the production
of my music video so that the digipak
could link directly to the music video.
With most digipak a lyric book is included
with all the songs featured in the album
and images of the artist.
14. The Back cover
Should always have a track List of
the songs featured.
A background image that relates
back to the rest of the digipak .
Which again is another image
from the production stage.
Should have a barcode for the
selling of the product.
A record label and credits
presented in small print
establishing all the other people
involved. Something that is
presented in real media products.
15.
16. Artist’s name and album title are poisoned in the centre and given the
biggest font so that it is clear to the audience what is being promoted.
Record label, which is used to relate to real media products.
Featuring songs from album is used to create hype for audience who may
be familiar with the artist’s work.
Album front cover create a synegstic link to the digipak and the album
cover.
