An updated version of IRUS based on the latest version of COUNTER Code of
Practice Release 5 (or R5 for short)

•Currently running both services in parallel
•Plan to archive the IRUS ‘R4’ site – retain access to past data, but no further data added

• We have processed the data for the R5 reports back to January 2020
• IRUS robot exclusions are now based on recorded usage across all IRUS services
• Some changes in the processing mean counts in R5 may be slightly higher or lower
than R4

9. What is being counted?
•counts number of requests for the full content item
Total_Item_Requests
•de-duplicates when multiple file types are downloaded from the
same item record in the same user session
Unique_Item_Requests
•counts views of records associated with an item (e.g. abstract,
metadata) as well as full content (e.g. PDF, image, etc.)
Total_Item_Investigations
•de-duplicates use for the same item in a user session

Note that Investigations are only available from when repositories implement the R5 tracker.
