HOW I INTEGRATED
TECHNOLOGIES
By Charlie Clements
ART OF THE TITLE
 I used the internet to research into the codes and conventions of opening
title sequence. We looked at the website Art of the Title, Art of the title is a
online publication dedicated to title sequence design, spanning the film,
television, conference, and video game industries.
 It provided us with various different types of title sequences, giving us
different genre types to work with. We were able to look into title sequences
that related to our work that we could use as inspiration when researching I
looked into the titles ‘Godless’, ‘Sherlock’ and ‘Identity’ which I could
associate with my final piece.
 Sherlock and identity display and show a sinister atmosphere which helps to
lure the audience further into the film gaining their interest in watching it.
 I found the website really helpful as not only was it easy to use but it
allowed us to read through interviews provided by the directors who talked
about the mis-en-scene and different features of the film.
NETFLIX
 Netflix is an American media service which streams films, TV shows,
documentaries. I used ‘Netflix’ to broaden our knowledge of different
Psychological thrillers. I watched many thriller openings to collate a broad
understand of all the different ways we could introduce our film.
 I watched the movie ‘Split’ which focused on someone dealing with their split
personality disorder, which leads to him becoming a psychopath. This movie
helped massively with our planning of our film opening as we focused on
what was going on inside of Elsa’s mind and how we would be able to portray
this across to the audience.
SCOOP.IT
 Using the collation tool scoop it. This allows me to gather different
information about different views and films about people with
dissociative identity disorder. This research further allowed us to
learn more about how people act when they have it. I have also
looked at films that are similar in genre in order to learn key traits
between each film.
 Scoop.it is an interactive content creative service and I have
decided to use Scoop.it as a place to collect useful research about
my film opening
FRANK ASH, BIG QUESTION
 Frank Ash is a creative consultant at the BBC Academy. He has taught storytelling and creativity
techniques to teams across the BBC and other media companies. In the video I have learnt how you
might think about appealing to your audience in practical terms. I can do this by telling the
audience what the story is, what kind of story it is and who the story is for
 Top line:
 The past events of an abusive father has led to this young girl suffering from attacks from
dissociated identity disorder. This leads her to have two completely different personalities, one who
is normal and the other who is an angry, destructive version of her.
 Big Question: “Will she be able to suppress these changes forever?”
GOOGLE FORMS
 Our marketing includes sending our audience
questionnaire out by putting it on Google Forms.
 Our audience questionnaire posted on Google Forms
promotes the movie by finding how many people would
want to watch a movie based of the split personality
concepts
 Our google forms are very useful as we are able to gain a
wider array of peoples views, as they answer it we are able
to gain an idea on what our audience would want.
YOUTUBE
 YouTube is a website that I used to collect research
about my piece on how to film and edit it. One very
useful video I found online was, ‘Every Frame a
Painting and Creative Editing Techniques’. Through
watching ‘Every Frame a painting’ we are able to see
how important every individual frame is, and how it
can add additional meaning.
CANON
 I used a Canon 650D to take photos at the start of my project
to get used to how the camera works and how to position
subjects in my piece. We then used them to shoot continuity
exercises as well as a practice opening title sequence. The
camera we used was high quality making out pieces look more
professional they allowed us to film in the dark still capturing
good quality material.
 The camera also took good quality footage of our characters
whom we interviewed as part of our character development by
'hot seating' them. We placed the camera on a tripod and used
it to take
FINAL CUT PRO
 I edited on Final cut pro as this was the
easiest way of editing. I was able to pick up
how to edit quickly, allowing me to become
more efficient.
 When creating the BBFC certificate we used a
15 rating template and then photoshoped
our films name on top of it. Then we
changed to text of what the film contained,
as it said nudity, and we didn’t have any
nudity.
GOOGLE MAPS
AND WORD
 I used google maps and Word to make my call sheet, risk assessment and a shot list. All of these
documents were very useful and were done before filming.
 Our shot list is a very detailed document that included our props, locations and the actors in each
scene. It was very useful knowing what we needed to shot before we did it, it allowed us to become
more efficient.
 Then we created a call sheet, which showed our shoot locations, cast, dates and props.
 We also created a risk assessment to outline all of the risks that are induced during filming. This
would be very beneficial as it would allow us to avoid these risks in the future.
BLOGGER
 Blogger is a blog-publishing service that
allows multi-user blogs with time-
stamped entries. I have used Blogger for
gathering my information and as a place
to display it. It has my preliminary
exercises, the exam specification and all
my research for my opening film to show
my progress to make my final piece.
 Blogger is very useful as it is an easy way
to compare work and also allows us to
present our work in a clear fashion.
PHOTOSHOP
 We used Photoshop while making our BBFC certificate
and our prop, ‘the hound of the Baskervilles’ cover.
 When creating the BBFC certificate we used a 15
rating template and then photoshoped our films
name on top of it. Then we changed to text of what
the film contained, as it said nudity, and we didn’t
have any nudity.
CANVA
 We used Canva when creating our social media logo, we created an
Instagram and twitter account for our film opening. We needed a
profile photo and so we made this one.
 Firstly we chose one of the templates and then we needed something
that conveyed Elsie’s uncertainty, so we decided to get a photo of the
mist and fog. It hides the secrets and cruel sides of Elsie's life.
 We also used Canva to display our information on our BBFC certificate.
We again used on of the templates and listed how we created it and
the meaning behind a BBFC certificate.
