COUNCIL ?
Export promotional Councils (EPC) are
authorities which are basically promoting,
supporting and assisting firms in entering the
International markets and realising their optimum
potential from given resources. They also provide
guidance and assistance to the exporters.
In legal terms, export promotional councils are
non-profit organisation registered as a company or
society. Each Export promotional council is
responsible for his particular group of products.

5. WHY EXPORT PROMOTIONAL COUNCILS
ARE USEFUL FOR FIRST TIME
EXPORTER?
As per the Foreign trade policy of India, any person who either wants to acquire any license to
import export restricted or other similar categories of goods or to avail any export related benefit
or scheme is liable to register for Registration Cum Membership Certificate (RCMC).
RCMC (Registration Cum Membership Certificate) is a membership certificate issued for 5
years by Export Promotional Councils or commodity board of India. This certificate is issued as a
proof that any particular exporter is registered with the council.
Export promotional councils provide various benefits to the registered exporters. And hence
plays a significant role for any exporter in India.
6. HOW TO REGISTER WITH EXPORT
PROMOTIONAL COUNCILS?
There are currently 26 export councils and 8 commodity board of India. All of
these export promotional councils promote a specific set of the product. Hence,
the exporter should register under the concerned Export Promotional Councils as
per their line of products.
E.g. if you are an exporter of coconut, then you should register under Coconut
Board of India.

Indian Oilseeds & Produce Export Promotion Council
Products covered: Oil seeds and oils, other than de-oiled cake, rice bran oil, soya oil, soya de-
oiled cake and the products other than those dealt by Shellac & Forest Product Export Promotion
Council.
Indian Silk Export Promotion Council
Products covered: Natural silks and silk Blends and their products including readymade
Garments and Carpets.
Jute Products Development and Export Promotion Council -(JPDEPC)
Products covered: All types of jute, jute blended and jute union products made from jute fibre,
yarn, twine and fabric for conventional, technical and new & diversified uses and products.
10. COMMODITIES BOARD IN INDIA
The Government of India has set up Commodity Board as a separate organization to promote the
export of commodities. Commodity Boards regard themselves as a match to export promotion
council.
Commodity Boards look after the export promotion of primary and traditional items of export.
While the export promotion council is responsible for the promotion of non-traditional items like
engineering goods, computers, chemicals, etc.
Commodity Boards are statutory bodies, while export promotion councils are registered bodies
under the Indian Companies Act.
Apart from export promotion, Commodity Boards take up product development. Export
promotion councils are concerned mainly with the promotion of exports of respective products.

14. FEDERATION OF INDIAN EXPORT
ORGANIZATIONS
Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) is the apex trade promotion organisation in
India set up by the Ministry of Commerce, Government of India, and the private trade and
industry segment in 1965. The organisation is responsible for representing and assisting Indian
entrepreneurs and exporters in foreign markets.
FIEO is registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 with its Headquarters in Delhi,
Regional Offices in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata, and Chapters in Jaipur, Kanpur,
Ludhiana, Ahmedabad, Indore, Hyderabad, Kochi, Bangalore, Coimbatore, Bhubaneswar, Ranchi
and Guwahati. The organization is ISO 9001:2015 certified and ensures uniform and quality
service to its members and associates.

FIEO has a direct membership of over 30,000. In terms of the Foreign Trade Policy, FIEO has
been designated as Registering Authority for status holder exporting firms and other exporters
dealing in multi-products. It also issues Certificate of Origin (Non-Preferential) which is required
by many countries as proof of origin of the goods. It directly and indirectly serves the interests of
over 200,000 exporters from every goods and services sector in the country.
FIEO provides the crucial interface between international trading community of India and the
Central and State Governments, financial institutions, ports, railways, surface transport and all
engaged in export trade facilitation. It serves on the high level committees constituted by the
Government of India to facilitate trade. It provides vital inputs to the Government on various
matters of trade.
FIEO has prepared the export strategy for more than a dozen states.

FIEO organises workshops, seminars, training programmes, open house meets with the highest
authorities to draw the attention of the Government on important trade issues and help speedy
resolution. It facilitates redressal of exporters’ problems by taking them up with the authorities
concerned and guides them on policy matters, international trade etc.
FIEO has entered into approximately 100 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with
international organisations, chambers of commerce and trade associations to promote
international trade. It organizes many country specific programmes to prepare the exporters for
various global markets. It exchanges business delegations, arranges exhibitions, organizes B2B
meets with the members of trade from various countries. FIEO is the India partner of the
Enterprise Europe Network and assists MSMEs in internationalization.

www.fieo.org, and mobile app – Niryat Mitra.

FIEO has developed and maintains the Indian Trade Portal – www.indiantradeportal.in, on
behalf of the Department of Commerce, Govt. of India. The Portal provides information on
India’s export and import policies, export benefits, Most Favoured Nation (MFN)/ preferential
tariff, rules of origin, Sanitary and Phytosanitary Standards (SPS) / Technical Barriers to Trade
(TBT) measures of 87 markets etc. at tariff line.
Daily update/alert on business opportunities, policy, SPS/ TBT measures, MFN/ Preferential
tariff, FIEO’s events etc. are sent out to the members of trade.
FIEO publishes many monthly and weekly bulletins, reports, articles etc. on various topics with
the objective to keep the trade and industry updated on the latest happenings in the international
trade sector. FIEO recognizes exporters and export facilitators and confers “ Niryat Shree” and
“ Niryat Bandhu ” Awards respectively.
