1. What is metacognition?
- Metacognition is thinking about thinking. It is an increasingly useful
mechanism to enhance student learning, both for immediate outcomes and for
helping students to understand their own learning processes.
What are the three categories of Metacognition according to Flavell?
Describe each
Flavell further divides metacognitive knowledge into three categories: knowledge
of person variables - Refers to general knowledge about how human beings learn
and process information, as well as individual knowledge of one's own learning
processes.
task variables - Task variables are about what someone already knows about a
particular task and the requirements to perform this task
strategy variables - the strategies that a person is always ready to apply in various
ways to accomplish a task.
2. Give the Practices of metacognition according to Omrod.
Knowing the limits of one’s own learning and memory capacities.
Knowing what learning tasks one can realistically accomplish within a certain
amount of time.
Knowing which learning strategies are effective and which are not.
Planning an approach to a learning task that is likely to be successful.
