How to evaluate web sites?
1. MacMillan English Dictionary (2002).From source Website:

* Accuracy: this is an online dictionary which authors are teams of lexicographers in Britain and
the United States.
* Currency: this dictionary has been regularly updated and the web was last updated in September
2010.
* Content: this website is very interesting for students because they can check the meaning of the
words they are not sure and learn the meaning of new words. It is very easy to navigate because it
has links and the website itself explains how to use it.
* Functionality: I have checked all the links that the website has and they work well and it has not
got any broken link and learners have not got to wait a long time while the website is loading.
2. Pearson Longman (1999). Longman English Dictionary Online- LDOCE. From source Website:

* Accuracy: this is another important online dictionary which functions as well as the one you can
buy.
* Currency: this dictionary has been regularly updated and the web was last updated in August
2011.
* Content: this website is very interesting for students because they can check the meaning of the
words they are not sure and learn the meaning of new words.
* Functionally: I have checked all the links that the website has and they work well and it has not
got any broken link and learners have not got to wait a long time while the website is loading.

for them because they learn a lot of new things.
* Functionally: the website is very simple; it has not got a lot of links (all the information is
scrolling down the site).

powers they can have and new words. It encourages them to put into practice their imagination
and creativity.
* Functionally: this game is very simple they only have to click where the page says and it uploads
very fast

4. Lesson Plan.
• TOPIC: reading comprehension and writing
• LEVEL OF STUDENTS: pre-intermediate
• NUMBER OF LESSONS: 3 lessons.
• OBJECTIVES:
Students will be able to:
- Improve their reading comprehension and writing skills.
- Give opinions about different stories and what different people did in order to help others.
- Apply their prior knowledge on ecology and pollution to enlarge their work, and search the
web in order to know more about them.
- Have fun while using technology.
LESSON ONE
• WARMER:
The teacher will read her students some famous legends and will ask them to give examples of
legends they know. She will ask them different questions in order to activate students’ prior,
background and cultural knowledge of the subject. For example:
- Which legend do you know?
- do you like this kind of texts?
- have you ever read legends in English?
Then, the teacher will ask the students to form groups and she will give each group a legend. She
will ask students now to read them and to pay attention to the way in which the different
characters interact, if there are pictures, graphs, etc. She will explain learners that they will have
to read Lady Godiva´s legend in order to create their own comic strip.

TITLE: William Tell and other Stories
Description: The following Webquest is aimed at raising student's reading comprehension.
Following the process steps, students will have to prepare their own comic as final task
Grade Level: 9-12
Curriculum: Foreign Language
Keywords: ELT, ESL, Lady Godiva, comic story, reading comprehension, writing
INTRODUCTION: What would you do in order to avoid poverty from happening? Would you
give those things that you do not need to poor people? Would you cook for them? Or maybe share
meals with them to reduce their hunger?
5. If you still do not know what to do, check what Lady Godiva did to help the poor people from her
town!
TASK: You work as a comic writer in one of the most important newspapers of your town. Your
boss has assigned you to write a new story about heroes and heroines; for this project you have to
read about Lady Godiva (a heroine from Coventry), look up for more stories and, finally produce
your own story.
PROCESS:
You will need to follow the next steps to complete this WebQuest assignment:
1. Open the next Power Point Presentation and read the story of Lady Godiva.
2. After reading her story, write a short paragraph answering these questions: What do you
think about what she did to help her town? Do you agree? Why? Why not? What would
you do if you were Lady Godiva?
3. While you are reading the story you will find some new words that you do not know, so
you have to look them up using these useful online dictionaries: Pearson Longman (1999).

6. • WHAT NEXT:
The teacher will ask her students which words did they look up in the dictionary and which
dictionary did they use. The teacher will also ask her students some questions about the
story of Lady Godiva in order to check their understanding.
LESSON TWO
• WARMER:
Students will prepare a revision of the contents that were discussed on lesson 1 answering
different questions, such as “what is a legend?”, “What legends do you know?”, “What is
your favourite one?.”
• WEB:
Students will complete step number 4 of the process, in which they have to look up for
more stories and complete a chart which is in the word document and they will start
preparing their own story (step number 5 of the process)
7. 4. Before making your own story you need to read some other legends apart from
the one of Lady Godiva, so look up for more Heroes and heroines' stories (at least
3 more) and complete the chart which is in the word document below describing
what this people did to become a hero and who they helped. Here is one more

5. This is the last step of your work; you will make your own story with your favourite

LESSON THREE
• WARMER:
The teacher will ask her students some questions in order to continue talking about the
main topic of this project: legends. The students will tell the rest of the group their ideas
and which legend they have chosen.
• WEB:
They will complete what they could not do before and they will finish the webquest.
• WHAT NEXT:
Student will now present their stories orally to the rest of the class, explaining what the
story is about and, if it is a comic strip, why they have chosen the photos. They will also

them to complete and which was their favourite stage of the project.
