This shadow displays the shadow path of the sun
at date & time intervals.
A shadow study is used to determine:
Where a proposed structure may interfere with
surrounding buildings daylight.
The most suitable placement and orientation of a
proposed structure so that it will benefit from the
south.
Where the building will benefit from natural
daylight and show where artificial light may be
needed.
It also determines where you should put most of
your glazing and where it will benefit from this.
With these characterisitcs in mind a sun light
anlysis will help determine the orientation of the
glazing on your building and where you can
modify it towhere the glazing would yield the
most fo the suns rays.
There are a line of trees indicated on the views
which show where trees are blocking daylight
entering the extension building, there seems to
be no heritage or council protecting these trees
allowing to us to uproot and replant these trees
else where to free up incoming daylight.
If the trees are to be kept from an aesthetic point
of view a clerestory can be added to the south
facing side to allow light to enter the building just
like in the illustration below.
