The document analyzes the NBA using a SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats) framework. It identifies the NBA's strengths as its strong media presence, advertising, fan engagement, TV ratings for events like the NBA Finals and big star players. Weaknesses include the desire for "super teams," limited international presence, and potentially high ticket prices. Opportunities lie in expanding international games and events to grow the brand's global audience. Threats include other sports leagues and issues like player drug use and gambling.

The NBA was founded on August 3rd
, 1946. It’s the biggest basketball league in the
world. The top known player right now is LeBron James on the Lakers. Basketball itself was first
invented in 1891 by a man named James Naismith. Just like all sports leagues across the world,
the NBA has fair share of their pros and cons. This is called the Swot analysis. You look at their
strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats as a league or whatever you may be
researching it for. The NBA has had their bad and good during seasons or off season. The
strengths are; Media presence within the league, strong advertisement use, includes fans w/ on
court activities, tv ratings, NBA finals, big name stars. Weaknesses are; the want for a “super”
team, international presence isn’t as good as it could be. Not many foreign countries watch this
sport. Also, the ticket prices can hurt them, depending on the opponent. Opportunities would
be; playing in more international games to increase the presence, have more foreigners play
the game, add more events to all-star weekend, and televise more games each day. Lastly, the
threats of the NBA are; drug use, player gambling, and all the other sports leagues. All these
factors determine the success and failures of the league and what needs to be done to fix them.
Strengths:
-Media Presence in the league
-Strong advertisement use
-Including fans to events and games
-Tv ratings
-NBA finals
-Big name stars
Weaknesses:
-The want for “super” teams
-International presence
-Player actions
-Ticket prices
Opportunities:
-Play more international games
-Add more events to all-star weekend
-Televise more games
-Bring in more foreign players
Threats:
-Football, Soccer, other sports leagues
-Player drug use
-Player gambling

The NBA has always been successful but fixing some of those things I listed would probably
make them better and more popular around the world.
If you draw in more audience from around the world like FIFA soccer does, your
viewership will majorly grow. Your sales will also increase which is what the NBA wants. They
have opportunities to achieve this goal too. They play a game or two in Mexico and China, why
not make it more and during different times of the year. You get views from those countries
during that time and can also scout foreign players. The NFL does this too. They have one game
in Mexico and two in London. I think they should add one to liker Dubai, Greece, somewhere in
the Asian area as well as Canada. When the NBA plays their games in China in the preseason, it
gets a ton of promotion. Ads, banners, etc. They make about $500 million of revenue. They
should do this for more countries! Tv ratings matter. The more ratings they get from their
televised games or the playoffs, help their revenue and viewership. The NBA has always had
good media presence and marketing. They have many ads during the Christmas time, All Star
weekend, and the playoffs. This helps to attract the people to watch these special events.
When teams make their own ads for new jerseys, that’s marketing and helps both the league
and the team. The ticket prices sometimes hurt the league, especially during the playoffs. For
example, if you have a 7-game series of the Lakers and Clippers in LA, the ticket prices for those
games are going to be very high due to the playoff’s aspect and the matchup. This is the same
during the regular season. A big think that can hurt the league is how the players act. They are
human and can make their own choices. Sometimes stuff they say or gets caught and posted
around which will hurt them, may end up with them getting cut and the league and player
looking bad. Super teams are when a few of the top players team up to win championships. The

recent super team was the Golden State Warriors. Composed of 5 all stars. I feel this ruins the
competition part because they will dominate lower rated and young teams, nobody wants to
see that. Some things to help them would be to add more events to all-star weekend, play
more international games and even televise more games. They make money on all of these
anyways. More viewership of tv games is more revenue and promotion. Lastly, some threats
that can hurt the league would be the other major sports leagues, player drug use and player
gambling. Players are not allowed to bet and gamble on games when they are in the league.
That results in a fine and possible punishment. Drug use is prohibited in the league, but some
say weed should be allowed. Players will be fined and suspended for drug use of any kind. The
NBA, like all the other leagues, have positives and negatives. Some do better than others. I
think that the NBA is a good kept together league with all its media and marketing in hand.
They know how to do it and do it well.
