Day 2: Heredity
 The class will consist of 20, male and female, 7th grade students. They have
various learning styles consisting of visual, kinesthetic, auditory. These
students are ethnically diverse and have little prior knowledge of genetics.
Despite a lack of mastery in the subject, the students do have a general idea
of reproduction and representative diagrams (venn diagrams, charts, ect.).
State Objectives
 7th grade students will apply the topics covered from Day 1 to concepts
involving gene heredity, Mendelian genetics, and phenotype prediction
through the use of videos and a Punnett Square worksheet. By the end of the
day, students will apply this knowledge with a 75% accuracy.
Select/Utilize Media and Materials
 Having looked over their notes from Day 1, students will develop an answer to
“Bellringer” question, which will refresh them on the previous day’s lessons.
After the bellringer, students will engage in learning about heredity through
watching a BrainPop video found on my WikiSpaces page. To aid students in
phenotype prediction, students will watch another video on YouTube about
the use Punnett Squares, so they can complete a worksheet.
Require Learner Participation
 Students will write notes from the first video shown to use as a study tool for
tomorrow’s bellringer. They will use what they have learned from the videos
and apply it to a Punnett Square worksheet that will allow them to practice
predicting simple phenotypes and answer follow-up questions on the activity
sheet.
Evaluation
 Students will be evaluated based on the accuracy of the worksheet, bell
ringer answer, and notes they took from the media provided for class
participation.
