How does your media
product represent
particular social groups?
In the opening of my film ‘The Hellion’, a group of five
teenagers are presented as well as an eleven year old girl.
Each character has a very different personality and is
therefore presented in a different way.
Lucy Gates
Lucy Gates is represented as a stereotypically nerdy character.
Her personality is presented as sacred and nervous. This is shown through her
awkward and shy body language, and her opinion on playing the Ouija board.
Her personality is also shown as being easily influenced as although she doesn't’t
want to play the game she quickly changes her mind when everyone else wants to.
Lucy’s clothing is also quite stereotypical of that of what a ‘nerd’ would wear. She
wears black glasses and a tartan top.
Crossed arms
showing she is self
conscious and shy.
Black glasses,

what a nerd
might wear.
Tartan top.
Will TurnerIn the opening of this film Will Turner is presented as a stereotypical ‘jock’
character. This is presented through his loud, confident personality and
stereotypical ‘jock’ clothing of a baseball jacket.
His ‘jock’ personality is presented through
his confidence. This is shown when he
makes Lucy jump when playing the Ouija
board and plays it on his own.
He also shows little fear when they start
playing the Ouija board.

Will Turners
character is similar
to that of Curt’s in
the film ‘The cabin
in the woods’. This
character is also
presented as a
stereotypical ‘jock’
character.
His character is
presented in a
similar way to Will
Turner through a
similar choice of
clothing and
personality traits.
Josh Rivers
Josh is represented as a stereotypical popular teenager. This was
shown through his up to date fashionable clothing and his friendly
confident personality. His influence on others in the friendship group
also shows his popularity. This is shown when Josh persuades Lucy to
play the Ouija board. As well as this the opening is set at Josh’s house,
showing again his popularity.
Body language
suggests laid
back, relaxed
personality.
Fashionable/
trendy
clothing.
Neat and up
to date
hairstyle.
Paul Dean
Paul was represented as a ‘normal’ teenager. This character wore simple
clothing similar to that of most teenage boys. He also appeared to conform
to the group, and had very few opinions about what was happening. His
personality however seemed to be quite nervous, despite not saying
anything to suggest this.
Playing with his hands
suggests he was
uncomfortable or
nervous.
Concerned expression on
his face, suggesting he
was scared.
Simple clothing
and hairstyle.
(similar to that of
most teenagers).
Aria Fitz
Aria Fitz represented a stereotypically gothic or edgy character.
This was shown through her choice of dark clothing, which is
something often shown to be stereotypically gothic. As well as
this the character was confident and was very interested in
stereotypically gothic things, such as playing a Ouija board.
Confident
personality
Black clothing
Body
language
suggests
she is not at
all scared or
nervous.
Lilly rivers
The character Lilly is represented as an innocent young girl.
This is shown through her innocent looking clothing, of
matching pajamas and long hair. As well as this her teddy
shows her innocence and vulnerability as this is something
often connected to children.
