Creative Critical Reflection 3
1.
2. Engaging and Distributing
As primary research my group and I created a
questionnaire asking both male and females of different
ages, backgrounds and ethnicity/culture what they are
expecting. However we needed to establish our
demographics which we found out were B (Middle Class)
and C1 (Lower Middle Class). Class B are usually teachers
or graphic designers and class C1 are usually nurses, etc.
Our Psychographics were explores. These people are
energetic individuals who want to experience new things
and have a sense of individualism. They seek adventure
and cherish memories. Usually younger demographics
students.
3. Uses and Gratifications
The uses and gratifications theory suggests four ways in which audiences use films (and any other media
texts). While the theory errors too much on the side of audience autonomy, it remains a useful way of
understanding how audiences may read a film.
Uses and gratification theory seeks to understand why people seek out the media that they do and what
they use it for. UGT differs from other media effect theories in that it assumes that individuals have power
over their media usage, rather than positioning individuals as passive consumers of media. UGT explores
how individuals deliberately seek out media to fulfil certain needs or goals such as entertainment,
relaxation, or socialising. This is a approach to understanding mass communication.
This theory focuses on:
1. consumer
2. audience
For our film we kept in mind the crime aspect of it and we showed the two different lifestyles of two diverse
cops been portrayed. We wanted to show the challenges each cop had to face and how exactly they faced it.
When an audience watches the film they see how the characters handle the situation which then reflects the
character personality and emphasis their characteristics. However we didn't want the whole film to revolve
around crime so we decided to add an aspect of comedy to lighten the mood and create a less tense
atmosphere for the audience. Not only does the comedy add entertainment it also allows audiences to relate
and and create a relationship with the characters which would then allow them to emphasis for them.
4. Technical Elements
The use of mise en scene helped a lot to create a film that my group and I are proud of. The film is engaging
due to the different camera angles and shots, the soundtrack and the use of high key and low key lighting.
The uses of different camera shot established certain characters positions in the film e.g For Chief we
showed him in a low angle shot as it established he is a dominant character.
To establish the relationship with Kapkan and Soap we used mid shot which contains the characters from
the waist up. From this shot, viewers can see the characters faces more clearly as well as their interaction
with other characters.
We used close-ups to focus of one characters face. This allows our audience to understand the characters
emotions and also allow them to feel empathy for them. This shot was used mostly on the character Soap.
Our soundtrack is very engaging as its mostly upbeat music which allows the audience to stay engaged and
focused on the narrative. The sound track also contributed to the mood and atmosphere of the film e.g the
morning routine scene, the sound track made it fun and also allowed the audience to identify the
characters characteristics.
We used Final Cut Pro X to edit our film. We created a split scene for the morning routine as it contrasted
both characters and allowed the audience to identify them at the same time. Not only was it a useful
technical element it also allowed us to save time as we had a short time limit.
5. Distribution
Our film should be distributed online for example on a
website which features short films or even the website we
created for the film. The internet is an easy accessible
platform which most of our audience should have access
too. Its quick and easy to find and can be watched
anywhere if they have access to the internet.
The film can be promoted on many different social media
platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and YouTube. These
platforms are an easy for us to upload information about
the film e.g the casts, the release date, viewing timings
and the plot of the film.
