4. STUDY AREA
Sathan Gali lies in District Mansehra
34º-14´ to 35º-11´ North latitude 72º-49´ to 74º-08´ East
longitude
Altitude 1600 to 2400m a.s.l
Most of the Study area lies in moist temperate zone
(Champion et al., 1965; Khan et al.,2016)
INTRODUCTION

5. Plants are essential to almost all living organisms
on the earth, providing shelter and food.
Ethnobotany explains the relationships that exist
between people and plants (Harshberger, 1895).

Our study based on the following research
questions.
Question No.1: Is the study area ethno botanically
unexplored?
Question No.2: Are anthropogenic influences the main
cause of declining floristic diversity?
9. To document the floristic composition of the study area
To record the ethnomedicinal uses of plant species of the
study area
OBJECTIVES
9
10. MATERIALS AND METHODS
GPS, polythene bags, twig cutter, field pressor,
digital camera and field note book
Frequent visits to field area were carried out
during flowering and fruiting seasons
Semi-structured questionnaire method was used
Local uses of the plants were got through random
sampling by interviewing nomads, local
inhabitants from various walks of life, different
age group and gender
10
11. Plant specimens were collected, dried, poisoned,
preserved and mounted on standard herbarium
sheets
Plant species identified with the help of available
literature (Nasir & Ali, 1971-1999, Ali & Qaisar,
1995-2009)

FLORISTIC COMPOSITION
170 plants species belonging to 154 genera of 75 families were
recorded
93.02%

17. RECOMMENDATIONS
Conservation measures should be taken where
plant resources especially medicinal plants are
under sever anthropogenic pressure
Proper management system should be
implemented to avoid overgrazing
17
18. Using current research as a base line further
researches in the fields of phytochemistry, plant
taxonomy, plant ecology, pharmacognosy etc.,
should be initiated
Awareness campaign should be initiated regarding
the collection of medicinal plants
