2. Gender:
The majority of my audience who I asked to answer my questionnaire were
50/50 with 5 being female and 5 being male. I did this to allow a varied but
fair result of answers. This means that my magazine wont be biased on
gender.
Genders.
Male Female
3. Genre of Music
The genre question form my questionnaire was left as an open question so
that people could express what their favourite taste in music is. From the
information put down I plan on using these as ways to narrow down what I
want to put on the front cover of my magazine.
4. Age Groups
The age group I put in as I wanted to see what type of audience I would be
working with. From the results they are based on only one specific age
group but this allows me to go ahead and find my approach in the
magazine text to establish a good communication with the audience.
5. Digital Download or Hard Copy
This was a very simple question that gave strong answers as it allowed me
to see what I can potentially include within my magazine to draw them in.
Taking ideas from other magazines such as NME, Q and Kerrang! It can
help me establish what kind of adverts I want to add in or even a
subscription pull. The results show clearly that the majority of people
would much rather download their music digitally than go out and buy a
hard copy. This can be down to how easy it is to download the music
giving you it instantly instead of having to wait before you can go out and
get it or have it delivered.
6. Hours spent listening to Music.
How long a person spends listening to music can determine whether they
are as dedicated to music as others. For me, I believe the more hours spent
listening to music can help you create a strong bond with a band or artist
firing a passion that will make you want to know nearly everything about
them, from every album release date to their birthday. The results were
slightly scattered but It did come out as 1-2 hours being the most ticked
box. This shows me that people who listen to music may not be massive
fans of specific bands unless those two hours are spent listening to the
same band over and over again. This again will help with my approach to
what to put in my magazine as going over board with one artist or band
may bore some people which isn’t a draw in factor that is required.
7. Popular Artists/Bands
I left this question quite open to the audience as it allows me to get a
general idea of what people enjoy most. Bands or Artists. The results given
show that there isn’t a given deciding factor, it shows that people have no
preference it depends on the content produced and whether they enjoy it
or not. This gives me the information I need as I can now decide who I will
have as my cover artist or what will even be on the front cover and spread
out through the magazine.
8. MastHead
I gave the participants the choice of four different Mastheads to choose
from that appeal to them as a consumer. From the 4 there was a close call
between two but Music Now came out on top. From this I can now go on
and make this my masthead if I’m still happy with it myself. This helps
scape the front cover of my magazine.
9. Price of the magazine.
In the questionnaire I put in the question of how much, on average, they
would spend on a magazine. This can be seen as a false result as people
would usually put the lesser price of under £1. As true as I thought the
result would be, to my surprise the majority of people put between £1-£2
which can be beneficial to a company making the magazine as this is the
price of many music magazines on the market. Plus advertisements this
wouldn’t be a bad price to use which again, helps my sculpting of the
magazine cover become more clear.
10. Most intriguing part of a Magazine
This question was something I considered to be an open result as peoples
opinions on what they enjoy about a magazine can vary. The results were
very scattered but with the majority of results pointing towards the
magazine cover it allows me to see what I should be working on the most
to really capture the interest of my audience. What the results also tell me
is that there are some areas of the magazine that I will need to make sure
is included to try and entice as many readers as I can in the correct way.
11. Main Image
For the main image I gave people the opportunity to choose what they
would prefer to see on a magazine front page. To my surprise, the artist
wasn’t the first choice, it was an album cover, whether I will go ahead with
this as a front cover I don’t know. It will be contrasting to most magazines
and it will mean it will be colourful and different which will make the cover
more approachable.
12. Preferred sections
I chose to put sections into my questionnaire to see areas of which people
preferred to read about. This can give me an idea, again, of what sections I
really want to put in the magazine.
