If your mouth dries from your emotions during an important presentation/speech and you
don’t want to interrupt the speech to get a sip of water, gently bite the tip of your tongue.
Don’t be scared. You will feel no pain, but it is the salivation that will allow you to continue the
speech.
Weird, but effective

If during a speech you speak very quickly, to get rid of the torture faster, try to train a little bit
before. For at least 7 days before the speech, read daily an article in a newspaper - not online
but a paper one - including all punctuation.
For example, if the paragraph is:
"We have been through this situation with Con Ed time and again, and they should have been
better prepared – period," Cuomo said in a statement. “They should have been better
prepared: With over 40K blacked out”
you will read it:
quote We have been through this situation with Con Ed time and again comma and they
should have been better prepared hyphen period quote comma Cuomo said in a statement
period quote they should have been better prepared colon they should have been better
prepared colon with over 40k blacked out quote.
Practice and then practice more

If your speech is on a scene, and you are felling like everything is so big that it might swallow
you, choose a single spot, preferably in the middle of the crowd so that everybody can see
you, no matter where they stand.
Address to that specific spot for for 2 minutes not thinking about anything and your heart
rate will decrease. You will be calm and able to control your emotions better after it.
Step into the spotlight

If there are cases when, in the middle of your speech you totally forget your idea
because of the anxiety, wait a minute and try not to panic. Here is a kit of small things
you can do:
Smile
Be honest with the audience. Tell them what is happening to you
and try to engage them in your emotional state.
You will be amazed about the reaction and more, some of the people from the
audience will tell you exactly the idea you’ve talked about before the blackout.
So, look what happened…

If you stutter during a speech, it might be is a sign of anxiety. You’ve lost control of your
emotions and the thoughts are coming randomly in your head.
Just give your brain some time to regain control over everything.
For this, try to speak slowly by pronouncing the vocals correctly. You will have time to
calm down and overcome your anxiety. Here’s an example:
A: your mouth wide open, on vertical and horizontal axis
E: your mouth open at 15%, on horizontal axis
I: your mouth open at 8%, on horizontal axis
O: your mouth must me rounded, opened and the sound must be
led in front of you
U: your mouth must be open at 5%, rounded and the sound will be
led up
Slow down a bit!

True story: If during a speech you will say: “Please bare with me. I am very emotional, this
is the first time when I speak in front of so many people”, all you do is to lead everybody’s
attention on your anxiety rather than your speech.
Instead, you can be honest and try to engage them on your beautiful and emotional state.
So, summarizing:
No apologies!
“I am very happy to be here with you. I feel your positive vibe and I am
enjoying it. Thank you for this. I am using everything that you are giving
me to speak today about…. “
“Please bare with me. I am very nervous, this is the first time when I speak
in front of so many people”,

In every argumentative speech, one of the best practices is to use all your resources
in order to convince.
If during your speech you are talking about an increase or a decrease, about some
stages: 2, 3,4 or 5 stages/points/thoughts, show it to the audience like that:
Raise your hand for increase.
Lower your hand when you are talking about a decrease.
Show two, three, four or five fingers for any enumeration
The audience will link the words with the image that you are showing and they will
remember the gesture more than your words.
Show what you are saying
9. How long has it been since you last heard about dictation? Well, it’s time to use it.
Record your speech and than do a quick transcription. Please don’t forget spaces,
commas, paragraphs. Do this exercise with three of your speeches and you will see the
magic happen.

#9tipGo rhetorical!
At the beginning of your speaking career, with all the chills and fears of the Public
Speaking anxiety?
If you are not ready for Q&A section of your speech, try to integrate rhetorical
questions in your speech. Let’s say you are very scared if somebody asks you about
the reason for sales decrease YoY. In order to avoid that, integrate a rhetorical
question in your speak, like this:
“If we will ask ourselves what is that YOY sales decrease, well, a possible answer
will be… ”

#10tipBreathe!
Before the big speech, you feel your pulse alarming increasing? Just sit down, drink
a lot of water – no juice, no tea – and from that position try this easy respiration
exercise.
Inhale just like you are smelling your favorite perfume
Exhale just like you will sustain a flower puff in the air.
Try the following scheme: count till 5 during the inhaling and also, till 10 during the
exhale. Repeat this simple exercise 10 times and you will be able to normalize your
pulse
