Problem Statement A school
teacher in India, needs a way to
Have closer interaction between
educational institutes and
industries Because It will empower
students and make them more
confident of their future
Industries
Schools
Government
Society
Contributions from the below areas can
provide solutions to the problem
2. Schools
1. Arrange visits to the local industries for school children
2. During school holidays set up ‘mock career fairs’
3. Request students to set up a ‘career focused club’
4. Start a school magazine on career options
5. Send students out to ‘work for a day’ in establishments
6. Arrange seminars at school and Invite professionals to speak
7. Like sports teacher, maybe it will be good to have a part-time teacher who advises on career
options based on their interests
8. Revise Grading system and add work experience to it so that students are motivated to gain
practical knowledge
9. Introduce more short term, specialized subjects in school
10. Have employment related short term courses introduce
11. Establish a uniform syllabus throughout the country
12. Equip rural schools with internet and connect them with better schools, so that the problem of
not having good teachers can be mitigated
13. Create tests to identify students with high IQ in rural schools and create good academic growth
and eventually a good career
14. Encourage independent thinking – This is lacking in most students and needs encouragement by
teachers
15. Reduce Student to teacher ratio to a reasonable level. At present its way too high
16. All Professional colleges teach in English whereas almost 60% of students complete their school
in vernacular language. So, we need more English speaking institutes opened to help these
students to do well in college so that the students are well qualified for jobs
3. Industries
1. More industries opened in rural areas so that rural population is exposed to practical
training
2. Job Directory on Job descriptions can be published by establishments
even if they don’t have any vacancy. This helps understand what are the expectations and
can be cross referenced with course study
3. Industries should provide an environment where employees are happy to work. This will
make students less wary of work
4. Standardize interviews so that students know what is expected of them
5. Maybe an independent company sets up practical tests and grades the ability of the
students since many interviewers are not good and don’t pick an efficient person
6. Rich industrialists should spend their money on creating more jobs
7. Open more research facilities so that youngsters have an opportunity to build talent
8. Closer interaction with the schools and colleges is needed. Maybe one member in the board
of directors should be from academia
9. Apprenticeship. Introduce a special unit in your industry for students
10. Spawn an idea and send it out to educational institutes as a competition to get done
11. Encourage employees to go back to school to contribute their knowledge and experience
12. ‘Bring children to work day’ – Encourage parents to do this
13. Companies can also assure employees that their children will get first preference for job
positions
14. Arrange workshops for teachers
4. Government
1. Statistics & Planning – This is missing in all fronts. A comprehensive database can help plan better
need vs. availability. E.g. How many doctors would we need the next 20 years ?
2. More museums, planetariums, libraries, parks, zoos – We are woefully behind in this compared to
most countries.
3. Basic needs such as food, clothing and shelter should be affordable for all and salary
commensurate with it
4. Compulsory education for all children should be adhered to diligently and all effort made to track
and punish people who employ children
5. Salary normalization should be insisted in the country. The difference between the CEO and the
lowest salaried employee should not be more than a certain number
6. Improve the economy of the country so that students are not worried too much about getting a
job as soon as they pass out and have time to explore options
7. Set up Training institutes for helping students who come from backward classes, manage to pass
the exams but do not exhibit ‘employable characteristics’
8. Stop corruption. Many honest people are afraid to start industries due to it
9. Insurance against job loss. This can be floated to boost confidence about the future for students
10. Reduce interest on education loans
11. Affordable loans to set up companies
5. Society
1. People should spread the message, to stop judging others by how wealthy they are and instead
appreciate talent
2. Arrange Free counseling sessions for anxious parents
3. Statistics of students who will pass out can be published well ahead and maybe a high level CV
published on the net to help industries
4. Parents should spend money buying educational toys for children
5. Parents should read to their children when they are young and introduce the joy of learning
6. Parents should stop doing the projects of their children and allow them to do it
7. Parents should encourage their children to study the course of their choice and not force them
to choose ones that are popular
8. Parents should encourage their children to travel around the world and decide or themselves
what they want to do in life. Many parents shy away from talking to their children about life
and career options
9. Educate girl children and don’t consider them as a burden
10. Encourage girl children to go out and work
11. Stop dowry system
12. Stop hoarding gold as an asset as this reduces the money available to be spent on creating jobs
