Jennifer Kilgo, Ph.D., Professor of Curriculum & Instruction, University of Alabama at Birmingham
"A Transdisciplinary Teaming Approach: The Quest to Provide More Family-Centered,
Coordinated, and Integrated Services"
Drawing on over 30 years of involvement with transdisciplinary teaming,
Dr. Jennifer Kilgo will use these experiences to illuminate the beliefs,
recommended practices, and team-based processes that ensure successful
collaboration. She will use her experiences as a backdrop to answer the
central question: How can the broad attributes of a transdisciplinary
teaming model be used to inform and improve all aspects of services for
children with disabilities and their families. To answer this question, she
will present findings from her work with faculty, students, and professionals representing multiple
disciplines, as well as families. Through active audience engagement, participants will identify
strategies for more successful team-based collaboration with colleagues and families.

This presentation will discuss the elements of Functional Behavior Assessment, and examine the relationship between
assessment results and the development of an effective Behavior Intervention Plan.
NICU Developmental Follow-up: The Multidisciplinary Approach

Level III NICUs are expected to provide some form of developmental follow-up to monitor outcomes of their
graduates. There is little to no standardization of what this follow-up should look like in the clinical setting. This
presentation will explore the multidisciplinary approach to addressing follow-up evaluation and care coordination.
An Exploration of Diagnostic Reading & Writing Assessment Tools for K-5 Students

Inclusion Conference – March 7, 2014 3 | P a g e Opening Keynote Address 9:00-11:00 a.m., Quad E Jennifer Kilgo, Ph.D., Professor of Curriculum & Instruction, University of Alabama at Birmingham "A Transdisciplinary Teaming Approach: The Quest to Provide More Family-Centered, Coordinated, and Integrated Services" Drawing on over 30 years of involvement with transdisciplinary teaming, Dr. Jennifer Kilgo will use these experiences to illuminate the beliefs, recommended practices, and team-based processes that ensure successful collaboration. She will use her experiences as a backdrop to answer the central question: How can the broad attributes of a transdisciplinary teaming model be used to inform and improve all aspects of services for children with disabilities and their families. To answer this question, she will present findings from her work with faculty, students, and professionals representing multiple disciplines, as well as families. Through active audience engagement, participants will identify strategies for more successful team-based collaboration with colleagues and families. NICU Developmental Follow-up: The Multidisciplinary Approach Derek Bair, MD, Neonatology & Pediatrics, Oakwood Healthcare ROOM 111, FAIRLANE CENTER NORTH BUILDING Level III NICUs are expected to provide some form of developmental follow-up to monitor outcomes of their graduates. There is little to no standardization of what this follow-up should look like in the clinical setting. This presentation will explore the multidisciplinary approach to addressing follow-up evaluation and care coordination.
