This document discusses tools for online and distance learning. It describes video conferencing which allows synchronous learning at a distance through video and interaction. Key features include screen sharing, demonstrations, and guest speakers. Software like Skype, Zoom, and GoToMeeting enable video conferencing. Web conferencing uses similar tools but focuses on disseminating information through webinars and webcasts. Learning management systems facilitate asynchronous e-learning through course materials, engagement, and assessment. They support distributed learning across devices.

1. Below are the following pointers to make
the instruction interactive:
• Acknowledge all contributions and
inputs of the students.
• If students wish to say something, apply
the “interruption protocol” which is the
equivalent of “raising hands” of students
in a face-to-face instruction. Name of
student is requested to be stated to be
recognized.
2. • Respond to answers positively.
• Allow the students appropriate time to thin
prior to giving of answers to the questions
or problems raised.
• Have a small group discussions when
solving complex problems.
• Manage the participation of each student to
avoid students dominating the teaching and
learning process.
• encourage the students to do more of the
talking.
3. Video Conferencing
• Video conferencing is used by
teachers and students to transmit
coursework at a distance.
• This is another convenient delivery
system that schools apply to have
teaching and learning continue
even at a distance.
4. Characteristics of Video
Conferencing
1. It allows learning at a distance.
2. It allows learning through
demonstrations as seen in the video.
3. It allows global learning by having
speakers or guest lecturers share their
expertise virtually.
4. It allows continuous interactivity.
5. 5. It allows access to information.
6.It allows conduction of virtual
field trips.
7. It is flexible.
8.It is affordable.
9.It promotes global
collaboration.
6. Characteristics of Video Conferencing
that Support Learning Environment
1. Teachers and students are connected
synchronously.
2. Students develop their probing skills by
points of questioning and clarifying.
3. Students listening and observation skills
are increased.
4. Interaction and collaboration among peers
are enhanced through activities that give
authentic learning.
15. Software/ Apps
1. Skype- This is a free service that
anyone can use. Having 30 frames
per second in 640x480 resolution
gives a high quality edition.
However, using a modem
computer with dual core
technology gives higher quality
resolution.
16. 2. ooVoo- This is a free online
conferencing site that is available on
both Mac and Windows PC. ooVoo
allows six persons to chat at a time.
3. Adobe Acrobat Connect- This is a
powerful conferencing tool that allows
sharing of files and use of whiteboard
where teachers and students can write
down their thoughts. This offers
unlimited number of participants in a
conference.
17. 4. AT&T Connect- This is a more formal
and professional way of video
conferencing that may be costly. This
is more suitable for large business.
5. MegaMeeting- This supports 16
participants which can work at any
browser regardless of the operating
system used.
18. Other Meeting Apps:
1. Zoom- Features of this app
include: collaborative
whiteboard, sending of texts,
images, and audio files. This
can hold 25 participants in a
conference for 40 minutes per
meeting.
19. 2. GoToMeeting- This provides high
quality video, screen sharing, and
personalized meeting URLs.
Conferences may be done via destop,
laptop or mobile devices.
3. Join.me- Conferences using Join.me
may be recorded. Participants may
also join using their mobile devices.
They can likewise share screens and
files.

21. Web Conferencing
• Web conferencing is usually
interchangeably used with video
conferencing.
• Though tools and requirements used
in video conferencing are similar with
web conferencing, its purpose is
entirely different.
22. Two types of Web Conferencing
• Webinar is a one-way
conference between one or
more speakers.
• Webcast is a live streaming
event, broadcast over the
internet.
23. Below shows a summary of the difference
between web and video conference:
Video Conferencing Web Conferencing
•Ensures message is
understood not just
disseminated.
•Disseminates data to a
group.
•Done via video streaming
to facilititate conferences
•Annotation of document,
viewing of project, sharing
of content are the main
reasons for having web
conferencing
•Screen sharing and
content sharing may also
be done in video
conferencing
•Can do live presentations,
team meetings, and
trainings
24. Other Online Technologies
• Other online telecommunication
tools that educators can use to
deliver instructions are through
electronic mail (e-mail) and
Learning Management Systems
(LMS).
25. • Learning Management Systems is a
software application or web-based
technology system that allows anyone
to create e-learning content and
coursework, deliver e-learning courses
to participants, track progress, and
manage learning materials.
26. Below are the components of e-
learning platforms:
component Function
Rosters For tracking of
attendance of students
and list used for
sending messages and
invitations
Registration control For monitoring and
customizing the
registration processes
of e-learning
curriculum
27. Portal for course
materials
For organizing of course
materials in a single
location for easy
retrieval and reuse of
saved course materials
Document Management For uploading and
managing of documents
necessary for e-learning
Multiple device access For delivering of course
content over web-based
interface such as mobile
devices, desktop,
laptops, tablets, etc.
28. Distributed instructor
and student base
For participation of
teachers and participants
from different parts of the
world
Export and import For sending and receiving
of course materials,
reports, and other
documents in PDF, TXT,
JPEG, CVS, DOC files.
Course calendars For creation of course
schedules, activities,
tests, and other deadlines.
29. Student engagement For interaction
between teachers and
students and among
students using instant
messaging, e;mails,
and discussion forum
Video library For creation of videos
needed in the course
Groups or teams For creation of groups
or teams for group
orientations, activities,
workshops
30. Assessment and testing For creation and
completion of
exercises, tests,
examinations and
other required
activities
Grading and Scoring For tracking and
charting of student’s
performance
Surveys For getting of feedback
and insights from
teachers and students
31. Other features of LMS are:
1. It allows teachers and students to hold and
participate in e-conferences through audio
and video.
2. It allows the creation and sharing of writings
in real time trough the online whiteboard.
3. It allows access in mobile devices and allows
students to study even offline.
4. It allows users to create desired theme for user
interface.
