WHAT IS MANUFACTURING ?
There are many ways and definition available to explain the concept
of manufacturing:
* The process of converting raw materials into finished products
* Manufacturing is a very broad activity ,encompassing many functions into
every thing for the quality control into a new product.
* Chemical and physical transformation of the material substances
* Manufacturing is a value addition activity to the raw material ,substances
or components
* Manufacturing is the process through which the product are made
through various production activities.
DEVELOPMENT OF MANUFACTURING
After the development of computer many manufacturing
machines and software are developed,

4.CAD/CAM ADAPTIVE CONTROL

advanced casting, joining machining and finishing
methods)

ADVANCE MANUFACTURING PROCESSES
Some advance manufacturing processes used are as follow :
 Ultra sonic welding machine (USWM)
 Water jet cutting machine (WJCM)
 Electro chemical machining (ECM)
 Electron beam machining (EBM)
 Plasma beam machining (PBM)
 Electrical discharge machining (EDM)
 Wire Electrical discharge machining (EDM-WC)
ADVANCE MANUFACTURING PROCESSES
 Abrasive electrochemical grinding (AECG)
 Abrasive electrochemical honing (AECH)
 Electrochemical arc machining (ECAM)
 Magnetic abrasive machining (MAF)
 Magnetic abrasive flow machining (MAFFM)
 Electrochemical discharge machining (ECDM)
 Laser beam machining (LBM)
Few of these processes are discussed below :
ELECTRICAL DISCHARGE MACHINING (EDM)
In EDM systems, the electrode (cutting tool) and work-
piece are held by the machine tool. A power supply
controls the electrical discharges and movement of the
electrode in relation to the work-piece.
During operation the work-piece is submerged in a
bath of dielectric fluid (non conducting). (Die-Sinking
EDM is also called Sinker, Conventional, Plunge or
Vertical EDM).

WIRE ELECTRICAL DISCHARGE MACHINING
(EDM-WC)
Electrical discharge machining wire cutting (EDM-
WC) is a thermal mass-reducing process that uses a
continuously moving wire to remove material by means
of rapid controlled repetitive spark discharges.
A dielectric fluid is used to flush the removed particles,
regulate the discharge, and keep the wire and workpiece
cool. The wire and workpiece must be electrically
conductive.
WIRE ELECTRICAL DISCHARGE MACHINING
LASER BEAM MACHINING (LBM)
A laser machine consists of the laser, some mirrors or a
fiber for beam guidance, focusing optics and a positioning
system. The laser beam is focused onto the work-piece
and can be moved relatively to it. The laser machining
process is controlled by switching the laser on and off,
changing the laser pulse energy and other laser
parameters, and by positioning either the work-piece or
the laser focus.
LASER BEAM MACHINING
ELECTRON BEAM MACHINING (EBM)
Electron-beam removal of materials is another fast
growing thermal technique. Instead of electrical sparks,
this method uses a stream of focused, high-velocity
electrons from an electron gun to melt and vaporize the
work-piece material.
In EBM, electrons are accelerated to a velocity of
200,000 km/s or nearly three-fourths that of light.
ELECTRON BEAM MACHINING
ULTRA SONIC MACHINING (USM)
Ultrasonic machining, or strictly speaking the
"Ultrasonic vibration machining", is a subtraction
manufacturing process that removes material from the
surface of a part through high frequency, low amplitude
vibrations of a tool against the material surface in the
presence of fine abrasive particles.
Ultrasonic vibration machining is typically used
on brittle materials as well as materials with a
high hardness due to the micro cracking mechanics.

WATERJET CUTTING MACHINE (WJCM)
Water jet, is an industrial tool capable of cutting a wide variety
of materials using a very high-pressure jet of water, or a mixture
of water and an abrasive substance. The term water jet refer to
cutting without the use of added abrasives, often used for softer
materials such as wood or rubber.
It is the preferred method when the materials being cut are
sensitive to the high temperatures generated by other methods.
Water jet cutting is used in various industries, including mining
and aerospace, for cutting and shaping.

  • 7. ELECTRICAL DISCHARGE MACHINING (EDM) In EDM systems, the electrode (cutting tool) and work- piece are held by the machine tool. A power supply controls the electrical discharges and movement of the electrode in relation to the work-piece. During operation the work-piece is submerged in a bath of dielectric fluid (non conducting). (Die-Sinking EDM is also called Sinker, Conventional, Plunge or Vertical EDM).

WIRE ELECTRICAL DISCHARGE MACHINING (EDM-WC) Electrical discharge machining wire cutting (EDM- WC) is a thermal mass-reducing process that uses a continuously moving wire to remove material by means of rapid controlled repetitive spark discharges. A dielectric fluid is used to flush the removed particles, regulate the discharge, and keep the wire and workpiece cool. The wire and workpiece must be electrically conductive.
  • 11. LASER BEAM MACHINING (LBM) A laser machine consists of the laser, some mirrors or a fiber for beam guidance, focusing optics and a positioning system. The laser beam is focused onto the work-piece and can be moved relatively to it. The laser machining process is controlled by switching the laser on and off, changing the laser pulse energy and other laser parameters, and by positioning either the work-piece or the laser focus.
  • 13. ELECTRON BEAM MACHINING (EBM) Electron-beam removal of materials is another fast growing thermal technique. Instead of electrical sparks, this method uses a stream of focused, high-velocity electrons from an electron gun to melt and vaporize the work-piece material. In EBM, electrons are accelerated to a velocity of 200,000 km/s or nearly three-fourths that of light.

ULTRA SONIC MACHINING (USM) Ultrasonic machining, or strictly speaking the "Ultrasonic vibration machining", is a subtraction manufacturing process that removes material from the surface of a part through high frequency, low amplitude vibrations of a tool against the material surface in the presence of fine abrasive particles. Ultrasonic vibration machining is typically used on brittle materials as well as materials with a high hardness due to the micro cracking mechanics.

WATERJET CUTTING MACHINE (WJCM) Water jet, is an industrial tool capable of cutting a wide variety of materials using a very high-pressure jet of water, or a mixture of water and an abrasive substance. The term water jet refer to cutting without the use of added abrasives, often used for softer materials such as wood or rubber. It is the preferred method when the materials being cut are sensitive to the high temperatures generated by other methods. Water jet cutting is used in various industries, including mining and aerospace, for cutting and shaping.
