Task 1:
The table gives information about percentage of consumer expanditure in three categories
of products for Ireland, Italy, Spain, Sweden and Turkey in 2002. Overall, the trend of
spending for food, drink and tobacco is higher than dresses and education.
According to the table, Turkey spent the highest percentage of food, drink and tobacco
about 32.14% whereas Sweden spent just 15.77% in 2002. Ireland is the second country
spent more for food and tobacco (28.9%) after Turkey. For clothing and footwear, people
in five different country spent under 10%, from 5% to 9%, especially was Italian spent the
highest percentage about 9%.
Although spending more in food, drink and tobacco, five country’s interesting in the
expanditure for leisure and education was lower. And Turkey also has the highest spent on
education and leisure(4.35%) while the least spent was Spain with 1.98%.
In conclution, Turkey’s spending on three categories was the highest and Sweden had the
lowest spending.
Task 2: Today, the high sales of popular consumer goods reflect the power of advertising
and not the real needs of society in which they are sold. To what extent do you agree or
disagree?
It is true that the popular goods with high sales shows the ads power that not the positive
demand of society. In my opinion, I firmly agree with this idea.
Firstly, Company used the power of advertising by the way of invited famous people like
celeb, idol and influencer to introduce about new product that reach media attraction. It is
commonly to see that many company spend millions each year for ads campains to create
trending video which has a great content, the product was endosed by celeb. This campain
will targeted at the right consumer, or maybe sometime in many case with the popular of
singer it attract every watcher to buy that good for no reason. For example, Pepsi has a
newly-launched product (new taste) and they invited Blackpink- a famous Girl group in
Korean to be an ambassador. And immidiately, that promoted their sales higher than before.
And this edition became limited in the world that many people ready pay a high cost to
have full of this edition collab with Blackpink.
Secondly, the advertising sometimes divined the uses of products that make consumer think
that they need this good more than before. Some experts said that “ The advertising were
convincing people to buy more of these product than the otherwise would”. Many
companies convinced us to think that we need their useless product eventhough the reality
is it wouldn’t make any significantly difference in our life.
In conclusion, it is certainly true that the spending of some useless purchases come from
the power of advertising. Also, purchases are an important part of our life. Beside the
contrary of advertising, there are also many good thing that advertising bring in our life.
So we need to think about the need of product it by reviewed the usefull or useless of
products before purchasing.
