While the business context of a project decidedly influences the success of any software development project, project execution matters as well. Scrum, like most agile software development methods, is originally intended for the use of a small team. Larger companies in the software development field have a need to scale these methods to larger environments, often a global operation. This presentation describes a two-year project involving over a hundred people across the globe directly. The perspective is that of practical methods that helped F-Secure to keep the project moving against many difficulties and uncertainties. Organizational observations are also included. These areas will be touched: - Organizing the project staff into teams and projectmanagement - Large joint planning sessions - Backlog management and tooling - Communication about backlog - Project governance bodies - Project steering and communication - Pushing responsibility down - Integration - Test automation status radiators - Testing - Bug handling process - Beta releases - Development environments - Dealing with disruptions, setbacks, direction changes and surprises This session will be most valuable to those who are working with real software development projects and want experienced advice on methods that have been successfully applied in global commercial context. The audience is expected to be familiar with Scrum and those who know Scrum well will benefit the most. As the topic is very wide not much time will be used on each area. The focus will be determined by the interest of the audience. Interactive discussion will be encouraged during the session.

When developing a product, the tools and processes you choose to use can certainly have an impact on the quality and speed to market. However the best tools and processes alone do not guarantee success. Product ownership is the key success differentiator! In this session we will examine the role and key responsibilities of a Product Owner and discuss the importance of leadership, ownership and championing that leads to product development success. Abstract: Lean Product Development (LPD) is a systematic approach used by enterprises to create streamlined processes and value-added activities. One of the main building blocks in LPD is to define and identify customer value and then deliver that value to the customer. Despite that, we have perceived a number of pitfalls to consider when working with, and implementing LPD methodologies used to define and communicate customer needs and requirements throughout the development process. The pitfalls are especially connected to the importance of how to best actively and continuously involve the customers/users in the development process. The area of Human Factors Engineering (HFE) concerns ways of designing with regards to human characteristics, capacities and limitations. In the work it is central to elicit user needs and mediate them into the product development processes, as well as letting the user actively be involved in the process. Therefore, in this paper we argue that HFE can make substantial contribution to the area of LPD. This is an article that presents the BCG-Business Model Strip which synthesizes ideas from the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) approach to business model innovation and Rod King's tool of the Business Model Strip. Unlike in tools such as the Business Model Canvas and Lean Canvas which have limited uses especially for business (profit) model improvement projects, the BCG-Business Model Strip can be used for translating an ambidextrous strategy into reality. The BCG-Busines Model Strip can be used for exploration (business/profit model innovation) projects as well as exploitation (business/profit model improvement) projects. In short, the BCG-Business Model Strip is the only business (profit) model visualization tool that can be used for managing both Lean Startup and Six Sigma projects.
