Research
2011
AGEP/SRI (Alliance for Graduate Education and the Professoriate/Summer Research Institute):
Stony Brook University. Department of Pharmacology. Dr. Stella Tsirka. Researched the activation of
microglia in spinal cord injuries on tissue plasminogen activator (TPA) knock out mice.
2011-2012
Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) & Science Education Alliance (SEA):
Lehigh University. Department of Biology. Dr. Vassie C. Ware and Dr. Margaret Kenna.
Bacteriophages that infected Mycobacteria smegmatis- relative of M. Tuberculosis-were isolated,
purified and their genomes sequenced and presented in Janelia Farm Research campus.

2013
Mountaintop Research Project: Lehigh University. Department of Biology. Dr. Ware and Dr. Kenna.
Bacteriophage Recominering Electroporated DNA (BRED) technique used to make deletions on the
integrase gene and several genes of unknown function to evaluate effect on phage infection cycle.

2013
Methods in Developmental Biology Laboratory: Lehigh University. Department of Biology. Dr. M.
Kathryn Iovine. Candidate genes selected from a DNA microarray were screened for potential role in
skeletal morphogenesis of zebrafish.

International Medical Campaign: In 8 days, over 500 inhabitants from 5 different towns located near
Cuzco, Peru, were offered a standardized check-up, medications and referrals to medical specialists
from volunteer students and nurses both instructed by Dr. Mildred Lovaton. Daily multiple vitamins were
distributed to families with children to help meet their daily nutritional requirements.
2015
Orange Regional Medical Center: Volunteer at Behavioral Health Unit. Participated in group therapy,
assisted in clinical analysis and helped patients adjust to institutionalized life by working alongside the
activities therapist. We strived to help patients develop and maintain a healthy lifestyle both inside and
outside the hospital.
Leadership Positions
2012-2013
American Medical Student Association (AMSA) Treasurer: Oversaw the financial expenditures of
the club organization and fundraised money. Over $1000 were raised in the course of 1 year towards
this organization. Money was spent to provide vitamins to the children of Peru, and towards equipment
(stethoscopes, bandages, antiseptic etc…) in the International Medical Campaign.
2011-2012
American Medical Student Association (AMSA) Speaker’s Chair: Contacted local doctors from
various health departments and asked them to present to pre-medical students. Speakers have
included: a forensic pathologist, a podiatrist, a pulmonologist, a Cornell medical School admissions
counselor, an emergency room doctor and U.S Army representatives.
2012-2013
Alpha Chi Sigma (AXS) Chemistry Co-ed Fraternity Social Chair: Advertised the fraternity to
increase attendance at events and attract new members. The purpose was to unite students for the
advancement of chemistry both professionally and academically.
2011
Latino Student Alliance Global Union Representative: Acted as a liaison between Latino Student
Alliance, Spanish Club and the Global Union. Filled out requests for monetary funds and advertisement
resources like posters and fliers. The goal was to spread awareness of events and enhance diversity
appreciation at Lehigh University.
2014
Latin Dance Team: Performed a dance routine incorporating a blend of salsa, bachata, and ranchero
dancing styles at the international bazaar, dancefest 5 and Diversity Life weekend. Dance was not only
a chance to display our culture but a means to include students at Lehigh University.
