■ E-Auction is an online negotiation tool. The supplier with the lowest bid will win the
auction. However, it is important to note that business will not always be awarded
based on lowest bids only, quality and service level are also important selection
criteria.
■ E-Commerce (electronic commerce or EC) is the buying and selling of goods and
services on the Internet. In practice, this term and e-business are often used
interchangeably. For online retail selling, the term e-tailing is sometimes used.

e-Business Roles and their Challenges
■ Business applications have two sides:
 Buy side: organizations that use e-Business facilities for their buying needs, spot
purchasing and/or enterprise-wide procurement.
 Sell side: businesses that sell their products via the transaction mechanisms offered
in e-Business applications.
 Manage multiple selling channels.
 Ability to take multiple types of orders from customers.
 Ability to differentiate and customize products and services from other suppliers.
 Ability to adapt and grow the e-Business without dramatic technology changes,
organizational restructurings, business processes or radical new investments.
 Empower suppliers and buyers & enable suppliers of all sizes!

E business limitation
E-Business advantages
■ Business owners of e-businesses and their customers find advantages in Internet
transactions as opposed to brick-and-mortar operations by improving
 operational efficiency and productivity
 competitive position.
 communications, information and knowledge
sharing.
 internal information access.
 relationships with suppliers and improved customer
service.
 Penetration into new markets through new channels.
 Reduction in operating costs and costs of goods and
services.
11
E business limitation
E-Business disadvantages
Less security
The biggest obstacle in the growth of e-commerce is
the issue of security. Internet is not a secured medium
of communication. There are tools or options available to
hackers whereby they can not only monitor but also control
any data communicated over the internet. Particularly,
people are not comfortable while providing their financial
information (credit card no. etc.) online due to the fact
that this information can be hacked and misused
Less privacy
The nature of internet technology is such that private
information of the online customers can be easily
collected and recorded on the server side. The buying pattern
of a customer can be known to an e-shop
with the help of certain sophisticated tools. You know that
cookies can be used to track customers online. On one hand
these technologies are useful for doing customization but on
the other, they can be said to have caused the breach
of informational privacy rights of a person
Purchase to DeliveryTime
As much as the Internet has the advantage of processing
orders and payments in real time, this has little benefit to the
customer who requires the purchased item equally fast.
Unlike brick-and-mortar businesses, purchases from your e-
business typically have a time lag from purchase to delivery of
the physical goods. Some customers would rather go to the
physical store and pick up the item unless it's of a digital kind,
such as an e-book or music file.

Internet is not a secured medium of communication. There are tools or options available to hackers whereby they can not only monitor but also control any data communicated over the internet. Particularly, people are not comfortable while providing their financial information (credit card no. etc.) online due to the fact that this information can be hacked and misused Less privacy The nature of internet technology is such that private information of the online customers can be easily collected and recorded on the server side. The buying pattern of a customer can be known to an e-shop with the help of certain sophisticated tools. You know that cookies can be used to track customers online. On one hand these technologies are useful for doing customization but on the other, they can be said to have caused the breach of informational privacy rights of a person Purchase to DeliveryTime As much as the Internet has the advantage of processing orders and payments in real time, this has little benefit to the customer who requires the purchased item equally fast. Unlike brick-and-mortar businesses, purchases from your e- business typically have a time lag from purchase to delivery of the physical goods. Some customers would rather go to the physical store and pick up the item unless it's of a digital kind, such as an e-book or music file. 12
