PROJECT TITLE: INNOVATIONS IN ENGLISH, SCIENCE AND MATHS

PROJECT WEBSITE:-

BRIEF DESCRIPTION:

Teaching can never turn out to be fruitful unless there is an active involvement of the students
in the process of disseminating the knowledge by the teachers so that the concept is
everlasting in the minds of the children and can be further practiced in the daily life without any
hindrance or doubt

For the purpose of this technique of innovation , evaluation of teaching and learning is
defined as ‘systematic attempt to determine the effects of an educational initiative, innovation or
experiment on student learning .The success of a teaching innovation will be determined
principally by evidence of changes or improvement of some kind in student and teacher learning
so that they become competent in this ever changing world of education learning.

This project is based on the assumption that educational evaluation is a professional
responsibility for academic staff, arising from a commitment to understanding the effects of
teaching on students and to enhancing student learning process . The most important point is
that not all teaching innovation requires special funding, for some of the most useful
innovations are simple, cost-neutral changes in style, structure and parameters.

REASON:

   • To develop studies of exemplary teaching and assessment practice for learners with basic skill
of required on the learning process like intelligence quotient, reading ability, ability of retention
and scientific temper and needs to identify effective policy levers for improving the quality of
provision of facilities in the students basic skill.

   • To create opportunities for policy officials i.e teachers , researches and practitioners to
exchange insights and ideas on promoting effective teaching, assessment and evaluation

   • The learners participate in case study development and analysis of findings. At the conclusion
of the study, policy officials, researchers and practitioners gather to discuss the study findings
and implications for empowering the students with basic skill needs ,improved access and extra
sense of confidence to tackle the adversities

   • A separate review of the English language literature on assessment to promote novel ideas
among the learners for a thorough clarity of the concepts involved in the teaching process

   • Since teachers of today need regular up gradation to transfer the knowledge to the learners so
special emphasis need to be paid on rejuvenating their energy for the better utilization of
       resources

OBJECTIVES OF PROJECT

   • To develop in the child desirable habits and attitudes like diligence, self reliance , focused mind
and a thirst for gaining new knowledge
• To develop research skill among the children and the teachers and help them to explore the
beautiful relationship between the subject and its relevant application in daily life

    • To pursue for imaginative approach and generate interest by engaging the students in plethora
        of activity based learning

    • To provide higher priority and space for opportunities for contemplation and wondering along
with the activities requiring hands on experience

TARGET GROUP

School Children , teachers and parents across the globe

REACH WITHIN INDIA

The innovative projects implemented by the institution helps to connect children and teachers from
different schools and join hands for the betterment and ultimate excellence in the field of education

REACH OUTSIDE INDIA

The school strives hard to convey the message across the globe through cultural exchange programs
with different countries and through activities included in the school curriculum with an international
dimensions so that the concept reaches beyond the boundaries of the country and spreads the
message worldwide

DATE FROM WHICH THE PROJECT BECAME OPERATIONAL

SESSION 2010-11(25-03-2010)

TEN INNOVATIONS OF THE PROJECT

1) Connecting Classrooms…Across the globe (English)

The activities of the English language are designed to enable the children connect and explore the
overseas boundaries

Students research on the various topics and go beyond the traditional approach thereby altering
adapting and improvising upon a theme and thus the process develops intellectual appreciation and
linguistics skills which are not only vital but necessary in today’s globalized world.

The activities such as” Tribute to Legendary Authors” that involved the students in knowing more about
the authors across the world , develops a sense of appreciation for the literature through different
tasks like character dramatization, face to face etc. Such activities expose the students to develop their
creative mindset and challenge them to think out of box

Interaction with the foreign dignitaries provides a platform for young kids to understand the diverse
culture abroad . Not only this, Flat Stanley activity organized by Gardnier Primary school Australia
helped the students know more about the literature taught in other countries and their likes dislikes
,interest and tradition .Thus broadening the horizon

    2) Sentence Auction (English)

Teacher writes about 15-20 sentences on the board/ smart board for the students on a particular topic.
Some grammatically correct, some incorrect and others not even related to the topic discussed earlier
in the class

Here in this activity, teacher becomes an auctioneer and opens the bidding for 15 points reading out the
sentences one by one and students then take bidding for the sentences they feel are correct in all
respects.

Finally after all the sentences, teacher discusses all the sentences

Then the students count the number of right sentences with them and the winner is declared.

This activity will help them to identify correct sentences and relevance of those sentences to their topic.

Thus inculcates a habit of being coherent and decisive

3) Multimedia for multi skills language teaching(English)

The school publishes its own e newsletter, annual magazine through a collaborative approach of the
students as well as the teachers . The student editors collect the matter and go through the same for a
better quality and finally march for ultimate goal of connecting to the masses through the school. The
usage of audio visual aids through EDUCOMP SMART CLASSA not only enhances their receptive skills
but also help them for better retention of the topic taught in the class

The school has well established Media club that keeps every member update of all the activities of the
school and other educational institutes from time to time, Activities of the media club build up their
confidence and empower them with rich vocabulary

4) Perfection in Spoken English (English)

Special checklist is made for every member of the school to follow

Starting from the basic building blocks like watchmen , sweepers, Helpers drivers , conductors,
the environment is so that everyone tries to be perfect through each others cooperation
without having an inch of hesitation

To improve efficiency in spoken English and achieve fluency, one needs to either immerse in
the language or watch regular programs in English and try to imitate the sentences .The
children are made to strengthen their command over the language by giving them a regular drill
on jumbled words, palindromes, parts of speech etc so that learning their language becomes
enjoyable rather than a burden

Tongue twisters are a great way of strengthening vocal ability. Using the exercise with the
different techniques listed here – speaking on a whisper, singing, with a pencil in the mouth.
This will strengthen one’s ability to have strong diction and to overcome lazy speech. Students
are made to practice wherever they can with whomsoever they can and become self
sustainable in this globalized world

5) Use of Basic Mathematics operation as a part daily session (Mathematics)
The teacher starts every class with a ten minute session of basic learning . Here the teacher
gives simple questions related to the usage of basic signs in mathematics and help them to shed
their inhibition and build their confidence in most difficult and challenging subject. Due to
regular practice they ultimately gain excellence in the subject and put more interest in learning
thereby reducing the chances of mistakes. These practices reduce the chances of errors in
calculations
The dodging table activity in the class enhances the mental I .Q of the children and helps them
rejoice the subject while learning

6) Use of mental ability , reasoning skill through online assessment in the form of G.K.
Quiz(Mathematics)
The Online Assessments ensure that parents and teachers know whether each student has
learned the reading and mathematical skills and information expected at each grade level has
been disseminated or not . The Online Assessments can also help identify specific areas in
which a student needs extra support and practice. Teachers and families can then work
together to ensure that a student gets the help that he or she needs.
The Achievement Assessments also help identify when students have gained a strong
understanding of grade-level materials and may be ready to be challenged by more advanced
concepts and activities.

7) Use of daily life objects and waste material as mathematical tools (Mathematics)

Mathematics is playing a very important role in our daily life .In fact mathematics is involved directly or
indirectly to wherever we go and everything we may use.

For example while doing geometry we use measurements which can be done by measuring daily life
objects like a matchbox, dice, ball, shoebox, birthday caps, Pepsi cans and many more, even if we talk
about surface area and volumes of solids these objects are easily available to give abstract knowledge of
the concept rather than just talking about a cube, cuboids or a cylinder. These objects thus can be
used by every student in mathematics lab to find measurements, areas, volumes. This helps in dealing
with different object and further different situations in daily life. Even to teach about circle we have
objects like bangles, pizzas, disc etc. Similarly in other topic like fractions we use pizzas, fruits cut in
halves and fourths etc. and many more……..

8) Exploring Space (Science)

The children are shown different documentaries related to space voyages and space stations whereby
they interact with the experts for a better understanding of the subject through practical approach
The school organizes Taramandal shows in collaboration with the scientific agencies to make students
aware of the celestial bodies Special sessions are arranged for the children in the evening where the
students work through the Sundial and other planets through the telescopes Students are guided to
present their topic based on space and its related bodies through power point presentations, this not
only enhance their intelligence but also help them become more inclined towards the learning
process , This gears up the process of understanding and make the inquisitive

9) Electronic Mania (Science)

Electronic mania is a magic words that has brought a remarkable transformation in the teaching
learning processes

The students get the opportunity of hosting a series of theoretical and practical sessions to understand
physics beyond books and notebooks. The motto of this electronic workshop is DIY

DO IT YOURSELF impresses the students a lot and their enthusiasm rises at its peak as they all get
deeply involved in what the teacher assigns them.

Students not only listen but grasp the basic concepts of physics by doing them manually. The concept of
capacitance, SPST, SPDT switches is cleared. The students listen attentively and hear with the help of fun
activities and positive interactions

In all it is a great experience learning physics. In this a way and we organize“ learning by doing” sessions
especially designed for them to be an active partner in the learning process .These workshops surely
help the students to score better marks in physics as well as help them practically in their daily lives

10)) Micro Chemistry Analysis (Science)

The micro scale chemistry laboratory technique not only reduces chemical waste
without hazards and pollution, but also provides sufficient time to do a number of
experiments to clarify a concept among the children

this micro scale chemistry analysis has been designed to replace traditional
chemistry laboratory. All the chemistry practicals prescribed by CBSE for X, XI and
XII classes are performed using the suitable apparatus designed for the purpose

It consists of apparatus / items to enable the students to do experiments using
micro scale chemistry lab technique. This approach saves time, reduces wastage of
chemicals, is less hazardous, environment friendly and very low cost.

Micro-scale approach has been widely accepted on ground of economy, safety,
saving of time, ease of experimentation and so on.

All the experiments related to senior classes are performed with the aim of reduce
or lessen the quantity and the usage usage of chemicals. Various experiments
that are carried out by the students are Quantitative Analysis / Titrations

    • Qualitative Analysis – Cation & Anion Analysis
• Electrochemistry experiments

       • Chemical Kinetics experiments

       • Chromatography

            And other experiments as well.

FIVE ACHIEVEMENTS

    • Winning Positions at inter school ,state and National level competitions

    • Children became extrovert and developed efficiency

    • Developed critical thinking among the students

    • Developed creativity and proficiency

    • Improved ranks in English , Science and Maths Olympiads

CHALLENGES

1) Availability of resources

2 )Lack of hundred percent participation

3 ) Lack of punctuality and regularity

4) Lack of concentration level and accent transformation in English language

How the project can serve as the role model that can be replicated or adapted by others

This can be done through seminars , workshops and orientation program me especially arranged for
the purpose

   • Helping students in moving from abstract to concrete knowledge

   • Inviting students and parents for a special session for conducting some easy calculations in case
           of learning of Mathematical skills

   • To have the students with extrapolator and hands on activities for acquiring basic cognitive and
psychomotor skills through observation, clarification and inferences

   • Inviting students and teachers from other schools for exhibition, sending media report for a
           wider exploration
• Inviting experts from different fields of education to guide for excellence in different aspects
    involved in learning process

Scalability of the project

The project has proved out to be a boon for the students who crave for more knowledge and believe
in enhancing their understanding of the subject

We can scale the project on the following basis:

• Utility

• Creative approach

• Observation

• Critical thinking

• Inference

• Expenses

Some grammatically correct, some incorrect and others not even related to the topic discussed earlier in the class Here in this activity, teacher becomes an auctioneer and opens the bidding for 15 points reading out the sentences one by one and students then take bidding for the sentences they feel are correct in all respects. Finally after all the sentences, teacher discusses all the sentences Then the students count the number of right sentences with them and the winner is declared. This activity will help them to identify correct sentences and relevance of those sentences to their topic. Thus inculcates a habit of being coherent and decisive 3) Multimedia for multi skills language teaching(English) The school publishes its own e newsletter, annual magazine through a collaborative approach of the students as well as the teachers . The student editors collect the matter and go through the same for a better quality and finally march for ultimate goal of connecting to the masses through the school. The usage of audio visual aids through EDUCOMP SMART CLASSA not only enhances their receptive skills but also help them for better retention of the topic taught in the class The school has well established Media club that keeps every member update of all the activities of the school and other educational institutes from time to time, Activities of the media club build up their confidence and empower them with rich vocabulary 4) Perfection in Spoken English (English) Special checklist is made for every member of the school to follow Starting from the basic building blocks like watchmen , sweepers, Helpers drivers , conductors, the environment is so that everyone tries to be perfect through each others cooperation without having an inch of hesitation To improve efficiency in spoken English and achieve fluency, one needs to either immerse in the language or watch regular programs in English and try to imitate the sentences .The children are made to strengthen their command over the language by giving them a regular drill
  • 4. on jumbled words, palindromes, parts of speech etc so that learning their language becomes enjoyable rather than a burden Tongue twisters are a great way of strengthening vocal ability. Using the exercise with the different techniques listed here – speaking on a whisper, singing, with a pencil in the mouth. This will strengthen one’s ability to have strong diction and to overcome lazy speech. Students are made to practice wherever they can with whomsoever they can and become self sustainable in this globalized world 5) Use of Basic Mathematics operation as a part daily session (Mathematics) The teacher starts every class with a ten minute session of basic learning . Here the teacher gives simple questions related to the usage of basic signs in mathematics and help them to shed their inhibition and build their confidence in most difficult and challenging subject. Due to regular practice they ultimately gain excellence in the subject and put more interest in learning thereby reducing the chances of mistakes. These practices reduce the chances of errors in calculations The dodging table activity in the class enhances the mental I .Q of the children and helps them rejoice the subject while learning 6) Use of mental ability , reasoning skill through online assessment in the form of G.K. Quiz(Mathematics) The Online Assessments ensure that parents and teachers know whether each student has learned the reading and mathematical skills and information expected at each grade level has been disseminated or not . The Online Assessments can also help identify specific areas in which a student needs extra support and practice. Teachers and families can then work together to ensure that a student gets the help that he or she needs. The Achievement Assessments also help identify when students have gained a strong understanding of grade-level materials and may be ready to be challenged by more advanced concepts and activities. 7) Use of daily life objects and waste material as mathematical tools (Mathematics) Mathematics is playing a very important role in our daily life .In fact mathematics is involved directly or indirectly to wherever we go and everything we may use. For example while doing geometry we use measurements which can be done by measuring daily life objects like a matchbox, dice, ball, shoebox, birthday caps, Pepsi cans and many more, even if we talk about surface area and volumes of solids these objects are easily available to give abstract knowledge of the concept rather than just talking about a cube, cuboids or a cylinder. These objects thus can be used by every student in mathematics lab to find measurements, areas, volumes. This helps in dealing with different object and further different situations in daily life. Even to teach about circle we have objects like bangles, pizzas, disc etc. Similarly in other topic like fractions we use pizzas, fruits cut in halves and fourths etc. and many more…….. 8) Exploring Space (Science) The children are shown different documentaries related to space voyages and space stations whereby they interact with the experts for a better understanding of the subject through practical approach
  • 5. The school organizes Taramandal shows in collaboration with the scientific agencies to make students aware of the celestial bodies Special sessions are arranged for the children in the evening where the students work through the Sundial and other planets through the telescopes Students are guided to present their topic based on space and its related bodies through power point presentations, this not only enhance their intelligence but also help them become more inclined towards the learning process , This gears up the process of understanding and make the inquisitive 9) Electronic Mania (Science) Electronic mania is a magic words that has brought a remarkable transformation in the teaching learning processes The students get the opportunity of hosting a series of theoretical and practical sessions to understand physics beyond books and notebooks. The motto of this electronic workshop is DIY DO IT YOURSELF impresses the students a lot and their enthusiasm rises at its peak as they all get deeply involved in what the teacher assigns them. Students not only listen but grasp the basic concepts of physics by doing them manually. The concept of capacitance, SPST, SPDT switches is cleared. The students listen attentively and hear with the help of fun activities and positive interactions In all it is a great experience learning physics. In this a way and we organize“ learning by doing” sessions especially designed for them to be an active partner in the learning process .These workshops surely help the students to score better marks in physics as well as help them practically in their daily lives 10)) Micro Chemistry Analysis (Science) The micro scale chemistry laboratory technique not only reduces chemical waste without hazards and pollution, but also provides sufficient time to do a number of experiments to clarify a concept among the children this micro scale chemistry analysis has been designed to replace traditional chemistry laboratory. All the chemistry practicals prescribed by CBSE for X, XI and XII classes are performed using the suitable apparatus designed for the purpose It consists of apparatus / items to enable the students to do experiments using micro scale chemistry lab technique. This approach saves time, reduces wastage of chemicals, is less hazardous, environment friendly and very low cost. Micro-scale approach has been widely accepted on ground of economy, safety, saving of time, ease of experimentation and so on. All the experiments related to senior classes are performed with the aim of reduce or lessen the quantity and the usage usage of chemicals. Various experiments that are carried out by the students are Quantitative Analysis / Titrations • Qualitative Analysis – Cation & Anion Analysis
  • 6. Electrochemistry experiments • Chemical Kinetics experiments • Chromatography And other experiments as well. FIVE ACHIEVEMENTS • Winning Positions at inter school ,state and National level competitions • Children became extrovert and developed efficiency • Developed critical thinking among the students • Developed creativity and proficiency • Improved ranks in English , Science and Maths Olympiads CHALLENGES 1) Availability of resources 2 )Lack of hundred percent participation 3 ) Lack of punctuality and regularity 4) Lack of concentration level and accent transformation in English language How the project can serve as the role model that can be replicated or adapted by others This can be done through seminars , workshops and orientation program me especially arranged for the purpose • Helping students in moving from abstract to concrete knowledge • Inviting students and parents for a special session for conducting some easy calculations in case of learning of Mathematical skills • To have the students with extrapolator and hands on activities for acquiring basic cognitive and psychomotor skills through observation, clarification and inferences • Inviting students and teachers from other schools for exhibition, sending media report for a wider exploration
  • 7. Inviting experts from different fields of education to guide for excellence in different aspects involved in learning process Scalability of the project The project has proved out to be a boon for the students who crave for more knowledge and believe in enhancing their understanding of the subject We can scale the project on the following basis: • Utility • Creative approach • Observation • Critical thinking • Inference • Expenses
