 Silicon is the eighth most common element in the universe by mass
 Over 90% of the Earth's crust is composed of silicate minerals, making
silicon the second most abundant element in the Earth's crust (about 28%
by mass) after oxygen
 It is extensively used in electronic and computer industries
 It is also used for manufacturing waterproof clothes, greases and polishes

6.  The metals that do not react to water, acids, alkalis and therefore
occur in free state of nature are called noble metals.
 Noble metals are mainly used to make ornaments because the are
unreactive thus the ornaments do not lose their shine easily.
 We also use gold and silver to give a protective coating on other
metals by the process of electroplating.
 Platinum is used in electrical gadgets. International standards of
weight and measures are made up of platinum-iridium alloys.
 Noble metals are priced so high that a number of people invest
their money to buy them especially when the economy is not
doing well
