1. What is syllable?
Syllable is a word or a part of a word uttered by a
single effort of the voice.
Mo + ther = Mother
Edu+ ca+ tion = Education
2. There are 4 types of syllables in English
• Mono- syllable
• Di- syllable
• Tri- Syllable
• Poly- syllable
3. Mono-syllable
• Mono-syllable is a word which contains only one
syllable in a word.
Example:-
• Cat
• Dog
• Pen
• Hot
• And
• Care
4. Di-syllable
Di-syllable is a word which contains two syllables in a word.
Example:-
Brother = Bro + ther.
Teacher = Tea + cher.
5. Tri- syllable
Tri- syllable is a word which contains three syllables in a word.
• Example:-
• Education = Edu + ca + tion.
• Favourite = Fa + vour + ite.
6. Poly- syllable
Poly- syllable is a word which contains more than three syllables in a
word.
Example:-
Calculation = Cal + cu + la + tion.
Satisfaction = Sat + is + fac + tion.
