The year of planning is basically taking time to design the academy program and develop plans for the implementation of the academy based on the NAF model.
For each Element of the NAF model, there are Standards of Practice, The design team will assess and analyze and set goals to ensure all materials and plans are completed to facilitate implementation of the academy program. This starts by completing Snapshots and culminates in the YOP Graduation Assessment(assess, Analyze the result & Identify the area of needs, set goals and develop action plan, and take action toward achieving the goals)
Teams participate in strategic actions discussing guiding questions posed in the YOP guidebook and Majority of the work this year is spent on working out the details, the process and procedures relating to the operation of the academy and prepare for implementation--such as recruitment policies, marketing material, etc….
Evidence: These become the evidence that demonstrate readiness for implementation
This process represents the NAF Countiuous Improvement cycle that every academy, whether YOP or established academy, goes through this process to get closer fidelity to the NAF model. The evidence that academies collect, is usually used for multi purpose, WASC, Funding, Other partner organisaion certification, etc…
10-15 minutes (Slides 5-10)
Although it is up to each academy on what tool(s) to use to collect evidence, such as the Dropbox or, any of the Partners’ portals—such as OPTIC for LL
However, it is important to make sure, you set up your files to align with the NAF Model and strategic actions so when being reviewed the NAF staff is not struggling to figure out what evidence goes with what.
One of the tools that we highly recommend is the Livebinders. We learned from several of our academies a couple of years ago that this is a good tool for this purpose
To facilitate the work for our academies, we created two different templates—one for the open academies and the other for the YOPs. We will get to go through the YOP binder later for you to see how it is set up.
We really encourage you to use this tool and take advantage of what has been created to facilitate your work instead of recreating the wheel.

You will receive a notification email with the link to the updated binder from the regional NAF staff you will be working with.
By clicking on the link you will be taken directly to the actual template that was created by NAF.
