2. What is the StoryMakers and Shakers Program?
In 2018, the Early Literacy team at the New York Public Library took ideas
and insights from Tommaso Lana to create a storytelling program for
early learners based on the whole body learning approach.
Whole body learning is a research based method that provides young
children a multi-sensory experience to best learn new skills and engage
in their surroundings. This approach known as Embodied Learning is an
inclusive methodology that allows all types of learners to deeply engage
with new content.
3. Why vote for StoryMakers and Shakers for SXSW Edu 2019?
Educators will learn the techniques of
Embodied Learning to revamp/overhaul/revive
traditional storytelling methods to provide
more in depth, inclusive and meaningful
experiences with literature in their learning
environments.
Educators will also learn what materials we
used to create our minimal and versatile props
as well as witness live performances of our
favorite StoryMakers and Shakers stories!
