Collaboration with local production sector, spin-offs and the creative economy - Luca Dal Pozzolo
1. Collaboration with local production
sector, spin-offs and the creative
economy
Luca Dal Pozzolo 11/04/207
2. Necessity of assessing cultural,
social & economic impact
Annual report, is one among the best tools to offer evidences
through:
• qualitative descriptions of activities;
• Customer satisfaction analysis;
• Stake holder perceptions of museum impact (shops,
restaurants, hotels, professionals);
• Economic impact evaluations
3. Beyond their mission, declined by ICOM definition:
A museum is a non-profit, permanent institution in the service of society and its development,
open to the public, which acquires, conserves, researches, communicates and exhibits the
tangible and intangible heritage of humanity and its environment for the purposes of education,
study and enjoyment.
Museum are in the best conditions to:
• Improve art and scientific education for all kind of audiences;
• Interact with the creative milieu, offering specific expertise;
• Provide empowerment processes addressed to different target;
• Opening museum spaces to local associations, hosting labs and
cultural activities emerging from the civil society;
4. Some examples among thousands….
Hosting local association, offering seats and premises, i.e,
Muséum d’Histoire Naturelle de Toulouse
Training courses and workshops for designers, architects,
graphic designers
Hosting fab labs, 3-d workshops, and innovative activities
(especially science centres)
Opening Museum rooms to social activities. I.e. Madama Knit:
over 200 women conveying in Palazzo Madama to knit together
on Saturday
Team building workshops, based on the aesthetic experience
within the museum
Facing the unforeseeable: training courses of Rivoli
Contemporary Art Museum for hypermarket cashiers
5. To get a shared acknowledgment on the activities is
necessary :
• To describe precisely and communicate each experience
: to make aware local communities of the role of
museums is equally important as to produce high level
cultural contents;
• To involve stake holders and partners to advocate for the
effect of museums’ activities on local society. The real
impact risks every time to be hidden by the complexity of
evaluating the real contribution of museum on the local
economy;
• To experiment different metrics beyond the economic
impact approach
• To evaluate the degree of openness & spin offs effects
toward the local society
