  3. 3. 3 history  Orange has been in the telecommunications business for more than 60 years.  Equant (formerly Scitor) was formed in 1991 by SITA, a not-for-profit cooperative supporting the air transport industry since 1949. The purpose was to utilize the SITA network to serve businesses outside the air transport community & to become a competitive global telecommunications provider.  In July 1998, Equant completed a successful initial public offering of more than 26 million shares, traded on the New York Stock Exchange (ENT) & Euronext Paris (EQU). In June 2001, Equant merged with Global One, resulting in France Telecom (FT) becoming the majority owner with 54.2% of Equant’s share capital. In January 2005, FT agreed to buy the remaining shares in Equant NV for €1.26 billion. Following the completion of this transaction in May 2005, Equant became a wholly owned subsidiary of France Telecom.  In July 2006, FT announced the worldwide extension of the Orange brand to all its entities and divisions providing communications services for businesses. The Orange Business Services brand represents France Telecom’s enterprise for global business customers.
