GOS and GOS-E
Case 1
Pre-injury Status
Our first case study involves a 19
year old patient who is not working.
Before her injury this patient was
not employed. She did not finish
high school but was working on
completing her high school exam.
She drove a car and had many
friends. She was involved in a lot
of social activities. She lived with a
boyfriend for some time, but
recently returned to live with her
family when the relationship
ended. She was completely
independent and did not have any
relevant pre-existing conditions.
Present Condition


She spends 2 days a week in
an out-patient therapy center.
Her reading is at the level of an
8 year old, she can do some
addition and subtraction.

She is living at home with her
family. She will go out, but
clearly much less than before
the accident and never alone.
Present Condition


She can do most of the normal
daily activities like bathing,
grooming, dressing, putting on
make-up herself. Although she
feels she can be left alone for
the day, her family members
disagree and do not want to
leave her for longer than a
couple of hours at the most for
fear she will become anxious or
harm herself, or forget to take
her medication.
Present Condition

She cannot drive a car and
although she claims to be able
to handle a taxi or bus, she is
unable to write down her full
address.

She does not complain about
any remaining symptoms or
about additional strain or
discomfort, but her family
members say she is easily
distracted and has great trouble
concentrating.
