2. What is SOA and why is it important?
• Tomorrow, you’ll participate in an example of a Student Organised
Activity (SOA) created by your tutor.
• Today, you will be organised into groups
• You will organise a 1 hour long activity for everyone in your class
to participate in.
• Your teacher will tell you what the theme of your activity will be.
• It is important to be active in your group as well as participating in
the activities created by the other groups.
• In the 5th week you will give a class presentation based on your
SOA so take the activities seriously.
3. Your class theme is: insert theme here
Your activity must be based around this theme.
It is your groups job to design a fun activity that
everyone can participate in.
If you think some people in your class will not be
familiar with your chosen activity you must make it
possible for them to take part.
You may need to have practice activities and/or explain
the rules.
4. Unacceptable Activities
• Anything in your (student)
accommodation
• Really dangerous
activities (Hang Gliding,
Sky Diving, Knife Fighting
etc.)
• Activities that are far
away (outside of the city)
• ‘Traditional’ party games
• Activities that are not
inclusive – everyone must
be able to participate
• Lazy activities (watching
movies)
• Cooking/drinking
Activities
• Expensive activities
(more that £5 per person)
If in doubt, ask your teacher about the
acceptability of your activity
5. What’s next?
• You’re going to join a group of 3 or 4 students.
• Together you must work together to create an
activity.
• You will also be graded by your teacher and
your peers.
• There are guidelines that explain this in greater
detail (handout).
6. But first…
• Your group must
complete an SOA
proposal.
• This must be finished
by next Monday.
