Since ancient times, herbal medicine plants have been used to treat a variety of ailments. The helicteres isora, often known as the Indian screw tree, is a Southeast Asian medicinal plant. This study looked into the antioxidant and anti diabetic effects of plant and animal extracts. Antioxidants are necessary to neutralise harmful free radicals in the body, especially when the bodys natural defence mechanisms fail. The 1,1 diphenyl 2, picrylhydrazyl DPPH and nitric acid NO reducing tests were used to determine antioxidant activity. A glucose tolerance test was used to assess the anti diabetic activity of various extracts of H. isora roots. Distilled water, ethanol, methanol, and acetone were used to make extracts of leaves, bark, roots, and fruits both fresh and dry . Each extract was put to the test. According to the Ayurvedic literature Launaea pinnatifida Cass is belong to the class of controversial drug Gohjiva. This plant is well known and valuable herb as per the traditional and Ethnobotanical information. Leaves of this plant has been used since ancient time as herbal remedy for jaundice, diuretic, blood purifier and hepatoprotective action by the tribal people of the Western Ghats. However, the plant remains largely unexplored. The antioxidant capacity of the various fraction of L. Pinnatifida leaves and roots extracts, obtained by successive solvent extraction with various polarity of solvents namely Pet. Ether, Chloroform, Methanol and Water, was evaluated by means of different In vitro methods; DPPH radical scavenging activity (IC50 value for standard ascorbic acid and L. pinnatifida leaves methanol fraction was 165.8 and 220.3 respectively), Ferric ion reducing antioxidant power assay (FRAP) and total antioxidant capacity (TAC) by Phosphomolybdenum method. Those findings means that L. Pinnatifida leaves methanol fraction was most active fraction for free radical scavenging activity compared to all other fractions hence consider as a most potent fraction for the isolation of phytochemical also used in a food industry for protection against oxidative damage. Antioxidant results also support the traditional claim of this plant. The strongest antioxidant activity of methanol fractions of leaves could be due to the presence of flavonoids and phenols.

The present investigation deals with the qualitative phytochemical analysis of leaves of ten medicinal plants. These are Bauhinia variegata Linn. (Caesalpiniaceae), Calotropis procera (Ait.) R.Br. (Asclepiadaceae), Catharanthus roseus (Linn.) Don. (Apocynaceae), Lantana camara (Linn.) Var. (Verbenaceae), Mangifera indica Linn. (Anacardiaceae), Moringa oleifera Lamk. (Moringaceae), Ocimum sanctum Linn. (Lamiaceae), Pithecellobium dulce (Roxb) Benth. (Mimosaceae), Solanum nigrum Linn. (Solanaceae), Tinospora cordifolia (Willd.) Mier. ex Hook. f. and Th. (Menispermaceae). Medicinal plants are abundant in phytochemicals that has significant therapeutic effects. They are relatively cheap, effective and safe in prolong use. This experiment was carried out to investigate the phyto-nutritional profile of broom weed (Sida acuta) leaf extract. Proximate analysis Sida acuta leaf indicated the presence of dry matter (91.88 %), crude protein (18.01 %), ash (9.73 %), crude fibre (6.24 %), ether extract (1.77 %) and energy (2760 Kcal/kg). Phytochemical screening of the extract revealed the presence of condensed tannins, hydrolysable tannins, flavonoids, saponins, phenols, oxalate, phytate, alkaloids, terpenoids and glycosides at 0.82 %, 2.02 %, 4.25 %, 0.20 %, 0.17 %, 0.05 %, 0.23 %, 0.22 %, 0.95 % and 0.02 % respectively and the vitamin constituents are thiamine (0.33 mg/100g), ascorbic acid (30.17 mg/100g), riboflavin (0.05 mg/100g), β-carotene (0.79 mg/100g) and niacin (0.41 mg/100g). Mineral analysis showed that it contained calcium (127.6 mg/100g), phosphorus (78.6 mg/100g), potassium (31.6 mg/100g), magnesium (102.1 mg/100g), iron (2.14 mg/100g), manganese (0.60 mg/100g), copper (0.04 mg/100g) and zinc (1.75 mg/100g). Result on amino acid composition showed that they contained lysine (2.11 mg/100g), arginine (1.77 mg/100g), aspartic acid (2.13 mg/100g), threonine (1.85 mg/100g), histidine (4.71 mg/100g), serine (2.03 mg/100g), glycine (1.05 mg/100g), alanine (3.31 mg/100g), cystine (5.06 mg/100g), valine (0.88 mg/100g), leucine (2.04 mg/100g), phenyalanine (4.72 mg/100g), tyrosine (3.51 mg/100g), isoleucine (2.84 mg/100g), methionine (0.85 mg/100g) and proline (1.05 mg/100g). It was concluded that Sida acuta leaf extract is rich in various nutrients and phytochemicals conferring it the ability to perform multiple biological activities and as a natural alternative to antibiotics. by Shittu, M. Nyctanthes arbor tristis Linn commonly known as Night flowering Jasmine , belonging to the family Oleaceae, is known for its extensive traditional medicinal use by the rural, mainly tribal people of India along with its use in Ayurveda, Sidha, and Unani systems of medicines. Traditionally, whole plants and different parts have used as an herbal remedy for treating sciatica, arthritis, malaria, enlargement of spleen and as blood purifier. The beautiful white flowers are bitter in taste and are used as stomachic, carminative, astringent to bowel, anti bilious, expectorant, hair tonic and in the treatment of piles and various skin diseases. Recent pharmacological studies showed anti spasmodic, antioxidant, anthelmintic, cytoprotective, anti diabetic, anti leishmanial, CNS depressant activity of the flower extract. In the present study, the different parameters studied helps in the standardization of the leaves and the methanolic extract shows potent anthelmintic activity which may be due to presence of alkaloid in the extract. ABSTRACT Azadirachta indica common name Neem is a very useful traditional medicinal plant in the sub-continent and each part of the tree has some medicinal properties. It has many therapeutic properties as it boosts the immune system, beneficial in treating acne, provides relief from bad breath, helps to protect against diabetes, effective in treating malaria symptoms, lowers the risk of cancer and cardiovascular disease. The plant is native to Asia and its sub-continents. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to investigate the phytochemical constituents present in leaves and bark of neem. The antioxidant activity, total phenolic, and flavonoid contents were also evaluated. Neem leaves and bark were collected from the Bundelkhand University Campus, Jhansi. It was cleaned with tap water and finally with distilled water and was air dried at room temperature and crushed. TLC was done for the determination of bioactive compounds present in the leaves. A qualitative phytochemical analysis was performed and we found that alkaloids, reducing sugar, flavonoids, glycosides, tannins, phenolic compounds, saponins are present in neem leaves and bark. TLC results shown total 8 spots in the methanolic leaves extract having different Rf values. The total antioxidant capacity of A. indica leaves shown the dose dependent activities. The mean values of total phenolic contents and flavonoids are 70 mg GAE/g & 119 mg QE/g respectively. Thus in the present study, the presence of flavonoids and phenolic compounds in the neem leaves extract could be considered responsible for conferring antioxidant ability. Micropropagation is applied to multiply those species which are difficult to produce conventionally. The purpose of this study was to access in vitro propagation of Hoya kerrii, an important ornamental plant to explore its potential for micro-propagation. Microprogation of Hoya kerrii was initiated using leaf, petiole, root and inter-nodal segments of the selected plant as explants on MS medium containing 2,4-D at 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 mg/L for callus induction. Leaf segments initiated callus earlier than inter-node, petiole and root. A significant amount of callus was produced in MS medium with 5.0 mg/L 2, 4-D and MS medium with 1.0 mg/L 2, 4-D gave the poorest callus.
