INTRODUCTION
• He came to throne when he was just 16 years old .
• Taking this advantage many neighbouring kings had planned to attack
on Harsha’s empire.
• His unending wars results in the unification of most of the indian
territories.
• He had planned to attack on Shahshanka who killed his brother Raja
Vardhana.
Harsha’s extent of his empire.
• Harsha’s empire extended from kamrupa to
Kashmir, and Himalaya to vindhaya .
• He occupied the entire north India including
Bihar,Bengal and Orissa in the east.
• Conquered Punjab and Sind in the west and
received title of Emperor of Five Indies.
HARSHA’S
ADMINISTRATION
• Administration was despotic .
• It was supervised by the king himself.
• Rural and urban receive the equal attention..
• Gupta’s administration consisted of :-
 Taxes
 Law and order
 Art and education.
TAXES
• land,customs and toll etc.were the main source
of revenue .
• Three types of taxes were prevailing that time
they were:-
1. Bhaga- it was the land tax,
2. Hiranya- tax paid in cash either by peasants or
merchants,
3. Bali- an extra tax collected in emergency.
LAW AND ORDER
• Stability and peace in his empire
• Very few criminals and rebels
• Punishment were in the forms of :
 mutilation of tongues
Banishments into jungles
Imprisonment.
ART AND EDUCATION
• Flourished in the time of harsha.
• He was great patron of learning.
• He himself was good author

• Indeed he was a great scholar, administrator, a
conqueror.
• He organized and build a powerful state for
progress of humanity.
• He was an active supporter of Buddhism.
• People heaved a sigh of relief under his control.
• Prohibited the killing the animals,and
consumptions of meat in his kingdoms.
• Extended financial aids to the Buddhists monk.
• His dedication to service and welfare of the people has
made him immortal.
CONCLUSION
• Harsha was a warrior , a statesman, a diplomat,a
religious leader and an enlightened ruler who
devoted his heart and soul to the welfare of
society.
