PulsePoint is an enterprise-class, software-as-a-service (SaaS) pre-arrival solution designed to support public safety agencies working to improve cardiac arrest survival rates through improved bystander performance and active citizenship.
Where adopted, the PulsePoint app empowers everyday citizens to provide life‐saving assistance to victims of Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA). Application users who have indicated they are trained in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and willing to assist in case of an emergency can now be notified if someone nearby is having a cardiac emergency and may require CPR.
If the cardiac emergency is in a public place, the location-aware application will alert trained citizens in the vicinity of the need for bystander CPR simultaneous with the dispatch of advanced medical care. The application also directs these citizen rescuers to the exact location of the closest publicly accessible Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
1. Sudden Cardiac Arrest
• More than 1,000 people a day die from Sudden
Cardiac Arrest in the U.S.1
• Worldwide millions die annually 2
• Many of these deaths occur needlessly
2. PulsePoint Foundation
• Increase Sudden Cardiac Arrest survival rates in a
massive way worldwide
– Bystander CPR is a critical link in the chain of survival. It has
been shown to more than double a victim’s chance of
surviving a cardiac arrest 1
– Using an automated external defibrillator (AED) in addition
to performing bystander CPR further improves the chances
of survival 2
– Replace “good luck” with groundbreaking
technology and a true paradigm shift to
citizens as the first, first responder
3. “Time is Brain”
– With every minute the chance of survival is reduced by 7-
10% 1
– Within 4-6 minutes brain damage starts to occur 2
– After 10 minutes few attempts at resuscitation succeed 3
4. Chain of Survival
According to the AHA bystander CPR is only
performed 32% of the time 1
According to the CARES registry a
public access AED is used only 4% of the time 2
5. How can PulsePoint make a difference?
– Improve the frequency of bystander CPR by increasing
awareness of cardiac events beyond the traditional
“witnessed” area
– Improve awareness and speed of public access
defibrillator (AED) deployment by providing precise
location information of nearby devices in real-time and
in context with the rescuers location
6. What does PulsePoint do?
– The PulsePoint mobile app alerts CPR-trained
bystanders to someone nearby having a sudden cardiac
arrest that may require CPR, so that CPR can begin
immediately
– The app directs these
citizen rescuers, with
a live map, to the
nearest AED
14. PulsePoint in your community?
– Improve cardiac arrest survival rate through improved
bystander performance and active citizenship
– Foster good will through a collaborative
community whose mission transcends political
differences
– Provide real-time access to emergency activity as it’s
occurring in the community
– Provide a powerful tool to professional first responders
who increasing rely on it to improve situational
awareness on events occurring around them
15. Additional Information

App Store and Google Play

Today, bystander CPR requires fate to place a CPR-trained citizen in the exact right place at the exact right time to make a difference. PulsePoint only requires a CPR-trained citizen to be nearby and further empowers them with nearby AED location information.

Ask “Which community will have a better sudden cardiac arrest survival rate?”
“This is what we want our community to look like.”
Activation example. Two potential rescuers notified in parking lot. Likely would not have been aware of cardiac arrest in nearby building until ambulance passed by.
Location of three nearby AEDs also identified for bystander rescuers.
