various methods of
opposition?
Attempted Coup D'état
• Hardly any – in 10 years of Nazi rule there were not Coups. Only in
latter years were there plots against Hitler.
Underground Resistance and Open Opposition
• Not a lot – But more than most realised. Many produced anti Nazi
leaflets, sabotaged factories, acted as spies.
Passive Resistance
• Quite common – Many refused to join the Nazi Party – members
of banned political parties meet in secret.
Private Grumbling
• Very widespread – Ordinary Germans resented many aspects of
the Nazi regime – no private lives, SA bullies, propaganda,
meetings, parades
Which Groups offered the
greatest treat?
LO: Identify various
groups opposed
Hitler and the Nazi
regime?
Each group has some information about one opposition group, and
each of you has a worksheet to fill in.
• The White Rose Group
• Dietrich Bonhoffer
• Martin Niemoller
• Political Opponents
• The Kreisau Circle
• The Edelweiss Pirates
You five minutes to review and discuss the information and complete
one row of your table. You must make sure that you each
understand the info because I will be taking it off you and then asking
you to teach it to others!
Which Groups offered the

LO: Identify various
groups opposed
Hitler and the Nazi
regime?
One expert will stay at your table – the other group member will
move to the next table, whose ‘expert’ will teach you about a
new opposition group so you can fill in the next row.
You must also inform that tables expert about your opposition
group. You will have 4 minutes at each table.
Group Confident  So-so ... ? Need to look

Write one Q and A based the last

Opposition to the Nazi Party)
Try not to make it too obvious!
When I say – move around the

turns to ask your question.
If your partner doesn’t get it first
time – give them two hints before
telling them the answer.
Then swap cards and move on
Homework

areas you are unsure of.
If there is time we will have one
lesson to do some revision.

Notes de l'éditeur

  1. Students come up and put their initials in the appropriate box. Teacher notes – based on the knowledge audit, I would now pick 6 ‘sages’ (those with initials in the confident column) and position them at various parts of the room. Students will then have two minutes (or more if needed) to visit sages of their choice, who will explain the information to them and enable them to complete their sheets.
  2. Need small bits of card or paper for this
