five sons of a renowned wrestler Dadasaheb _____. He participated in the Quit
India Movement providing shelter and a hiding place to the revolutionaries,
circulating letters against the British were some of his contributions to the
movement. He resolved to unfurl the tri-color flag in Olympics on Independence
Day August 15, 1947. He later went on to accomplish a first for Independent India
in 1952, though was unfairly treated which makes one wonder what more could
he have achieved had better systems been in place.

“The Transposed Heads” is a 1940 novella by Thomas Mann. A retelling of an old
folk story originally found in the 11th-century Sanskrit text Kathasaritsagara, it
recounts the tales of Shridaman (man of mind) and Nanda (man of body). They
both fall in love with Sita who accepts Shridman’s proposal. However, she later
begins to question this decision much to Shridman’s disdain. Sita gets pregnant
and when they are visiting her parents, they come across a Kali temple where in a
fit of religious fervour Shridman, followed by Nanda behead themselves. Kali later
grants Sita a wish to bring them back to life but in her confusion she interchanges
the heads. This was later adapted into a play called Hayavadana about a _______
_____ which was instrumental in establishing X as a young promising playwright.

X was born in a small village, Kridapura, 9 km from Tumkur. Touted as a legendary sculptor
he left home young in search of fame and glory. His son too grew up an accomplished
sculptor and set out in search of his father. He soon found a job as a sculptor and noticed
a flaw in a figure sculpted by X. The stone which X was carving had a toad living inside
which was a considered to be a flaw. Furious at this, X challenged to cut off his right hand
if the young sculptor was correct in his assessment of the sculpture. X’s son chiselled the
place where the flaw was present and a toad jumped out with a little water flowing from
that spot. Upon testing the figure, the flaw was indeed revealed and X kept his promise
and cut off his right hand.
X did regain his hands after completing the “Chennakeshava Temple”, and Kridapura got
rechristened to Kaidala. Who was the sculptor?
