1. Cold Cream
Cold crems are water-in-oil or oil-in-water type emulsions added with certain fats
& perfuming agents.
Applied on skin to provide smoothness & remove makeup.
#. Ideal Properties: -
Have a low sensitization index.
➢ Elegant in appearance.
➢ Should be nondehydrating, non-greasy & non-staining.
➢ Should be miscible with skin secretion.
Not cause irritation to the skin.
Formulation of Cold Cream
The ingredients for the formulation of cold creams as follow: -
Formula Quantity for 100gm
White beeswax (emollient) 20gm
Mineral oil (lubricant) 50gm
Distilled water (vehicle) 28.8gm
Borax (buffer) 0.7gm
Perfume (Odour) 0.5gm
2. #. Preparation of Cold Creams: -
01). Beeswax melted in container on water bath maintained at 70o
C & added
with mineral oils; this is mixture A (oily phase).
02). Water is heated in another container at same temp. & added with borax;
this is mixture B (aqueous phase)
03). Mixture B slowly added to the mixture A with stirring to form a creamy
emulsion.
04). At the last, the preparation is brought down to 40o
C added with a suitable
perfume.
3. Vanishing Cream
Also known as “Day creams”, as they are applied in the day times.
These creams provide emollient & protective action to the skin against
environmental conditions.
They are used to hold powder on the skin & to improve adhesion.
#. Ideal Properties: -
High melting point.
Should be pure white in colour.
Should possess a very slight Odour.
A less amount of iodine.
Formulation of Vanishing Creams
The ingredient used for formulation of vanishing creams as following:

01). Main Ingredient Stearic acid [Control cream consistency]
02). Humectants Glycerin, sorbitol, propylene glycol
03). Alkalis Potassium hydroxide, sodium hydroxide, carbonates
(Potassium & sodium carbonate), Ammonia, Borax
04). Emulsifying Agent Triethanolamine soap, amino glycol soap or glyceryl
monostearate
05). Purified water Distilled & Deionized
06). Preservative Methyl paraben & propyl paraben
07). Perfume Geranium, sandal wood, lavender oil.
4. Preparation of Vanishing Cream

Method: -
Stearic acid is melted by eating on a water bath potassium hydroxide dissolved in
water, glycerin is added, & the mixture is heated at 75o
C temp. this method
mixture is slowly added to the melted stearic acid with constant stirring. The
obtained mixture is maintained at 40o
C temp. added with a suitable perfume.

Method: -
Lanolin & stearic acid are method. A hot solution of borax, triethanolamine,
glycerin, & water is prepared. The alkali solution is added to stearic acid & stirrer
to emulsify. When the temp. drops down to 40o
C, a suitable perfume is added.
