Presentation on the latest User Interfaces. I've talked about mind controlled tablets, TWINE, a natural interface where devices can share files just by swiping it from one device to another, and the eye tribe.
2. MIND-CONTROLLED
TABLETS
• Samsung has begun testing mind-controlled
tablets and smartphones as the next step
toward freeing people from tapping on
keyboards or screens.
• Samsung’s Emerging Technology Lab teamed
up with Roozbeh Jafri (Electrical Engineer).
• Their aim is to install this technology on the
Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet.
3. MIND-CONTROLLED
TABLETS
HOW IT WORKS?
• Users can only carry out mind-controlled
actions about once every 5 seconds.
• It has an accuracy of only 80 to 95%.
• Users must wear a cap covered with
electrodes and wires.
• It picks up the patterns in the brain’s
electrical signals and performs the action.
4. TWINE
• Created by John and David at the MIT
media lab.
• Twine is a wireless module tightly
integrated with a cloud-based service.
• It is a device filled with sensors, detects
anything from moisture,vibration to
magnetism.
• Stick it anywhere, and it’ll tweet, email, or
sms you.
• No coding required.
5. TWINE
HOW IT WORKS?
• You may plunk your twine on the main
door of your house where its built-in
accelerometer sensor will sense if the door
has been knocked.
• Then head to the TWINE web app, Spool
and create a simple rule based program.
• “If TWINE senses a knock, send me a text
message.”
6. TWINE
SENSORS
• Internal temperature sensor
• Internal accelerometer (for vibration,
impact, and motion detection)
• A magnetic switch (useful for doors and
anything else that moves)
• Moisture sensor (detect the presence of
water)
• Breakout board --- allows you to easily
wire up other sensors that you think up —
no soldering required!
12. NATURAL INTERFACE FOR
TRANSFERING FILES
FROM ONE DEVICE TO
ANOTHER
• Dropbox and iCloud provide wireless
synchronization of data, but non of these
provide a tangible connection.
• Ishac Betran came up with a natural interface
for transferring files from one device to
another.
13. NATURAL INTERFACE FOR
TRANSFERING FILES
FROM ONE DEVICE TO
ANOTHER
HOW IT WORKS?
• You hold the devices next to each other.
• Each device forms a half moon which means
the devices are now connected.
• Then to share a file, you’d drag it from one
half moon to another, using swipes and
pinches.
17. THE EYE TRIBE
• It introduces eye control technology.
• Computers respond to the movement of
the user’s eye.
• They connect a device with infrared
sensors and infrared cameras.
• Eye tribe says, its not using chips to
process the eye tracking data, instead
its relying on the processors already in a
mobile device.
18. THE EYE TRIBE
HOW IT WORKS?
• For it to work you first have to calibrate with
the software by looking and following a dot.
• Finally, when that’s done, you can scroll and
you can also play a game with your eyes
called ninja fruit.
