Identify driving hazards.
Understand defensive driving
techniques.
Use defensive driving techniques to
prevent accidents and injuries on the
road.
Key Points to Remember:-
Know the driving hazards you can face on the
road.
Maintain your vehicle in good condition
Always wear a seat belt.
follow traffic rules and obey signs and signals.
Be a safe and defensive driver every day Know
how to respond to an accident.
WHY DRIVER TRAINING?
Driving is something we all do daily.
It’s the most dangerous thing we do,
and is the number one killer of those
under 50 years of age.
It’s responsible for over 50% of all
work-related fatalities.
Pre-Drive Inspection:
Walk around .
Inspection.
Tires.
Leaks under vehicle.
Windows clean, nothing blocking vision.
Mirrors properly adjusted.
Lights working properly.
Physical Conditions that effect
driver:
Fatigue.
Illness.
Age.
Stress.
Physical Disabilities.
Major driving Errors:
Failure to obey traffic laws.
Failure to maintain your vehicle.
Discourtesy to other drivers.
Lack of Driving Knowledge.
Bad Judgment / Poor Decision Making.
Driving at Night:
Things to remember about driving at night:
Your headlights illuminate only a portion of
the road.
The speed you travel may eliminate your
reaction time.
Your peripheral vision is hindered by
reduced light
Try to never drive when you are sleepy.
Driving Hazards Dangerous Conditions:
Bad weather.
Difficult road conditions.
Poor light or glare.
Heavy traffic.
Road work.
Accidents.
Traffic Congestion:
Always signal your intention to change lanes and look
to make sure the way is clear.
When you see someone attempting to change lanes,
let them in to ensure smoother traffic flow.
When you drive on the feeder/access road, give right
of way to cars exiting the freeway.
Backing rules:
Do Not Trust your rear and side mirrors - they have
large blindspots.
Always look over your shoulder.
Keep one foot on the brake pedal.
Back slowly.
Be careful of small children who may wander behind
your car or truck.
Interacting with Pedestrians on the Road:
Be extra careful around schools and parked cars.
Be aware of the special needs of the elderly and
disabled.
You must always yield to pedestrians when turning.
Dangerous Conditions:
Bad weather.
Difficult road conditions.
Poor light or glare.
Heavy traffic.
Road work.
Accidents.
Carrying a Load?
Don’t overload your vehicle.
Make sure everyone has a seat and a seat belt.
Make sure cargo is properly secured.
Be certain your vision is not blocked.
Keep Cool in Traffic:
Keep your emotions in check.
Take steps to stay relaxed no matter what
Allow enough time to get there.
Don’t provoke other drivers.
Report aggressive drivers to the police.
Driving in Fog:
Turn on your low-beamheadlights andfog
lights whenever fog reduces visibility.
Use fog lights if visibility is reduced, but
remember to switch them off when
visibility improves.
High beams increase the glare andreduce
visibility in fog conditions.

Warning Signs:
Warnings or Caution signs indicates:
A traffic warning sign is a type of traffic sign that indicates a
hazard ahead on the road that may not be readily apparent
to a driver.
These signs warn of dangerous or unusual conditions ahead
such as a curve, turn, dip or side road. They are usually
diamond-shaped and have a yellow background with black
letters or symbols.
U have to pay a heavy fine in order to not follow them..
Regulatory signs indicates:
These signs give a direction that must be obeyed.
They are usually rectangular or square with a white
or black background and black, white or coloured
letters.
A red circle with a line through it means the
activity shown is not allowed.
