Dear Professors,
I am writing to apply for the fixed term position of Research Technician MHLCM1312.
I am due to complete my undergraduate degree in Biomedical Science with Sheffield Hallam University, accredited
with the Institute of Biomedical Science this year 2023.
My current studies have provided me with a sound lab experience, so I am also familiar with a range of other
techniques such as PCR, ELISA, cell culture, etc. Whilst my experience is still quite young and based on my industrial
placement I had a huge opportunity to work for a year in industry at the University of Leeds in the Neuroscience
department. This placement focused on alterations mice’s neurobiology in relation to circadian rhythm at two different
time points, studying transgenic mice also via immunohistochemistry (IHC). This practical ability and experience with
tissue can easily be transferred and applied to tissue culture and molecular/biophysical methods (theory behind
instruments cemented through two years of modules surrounding biomedical investigations).
I am eager to be able to start my professional career in research and look forward to bringing enthusiasm in the and
the essential attributes and behaviours such as, high level of analytical and problem-solving capability through
equating and quantifying results on my placement. I am also familiar with presenting and communicate complex
information with clarity to my team of professionals during placement as well as demonstrations on IHC technique to
final year post graduate students. As a student I have developed good time management and ability to prioritise to
meet deadlines through experiences at managing various part time hospitality and care work.
I would relish in the opportunity to work in your department as a top university and have ambitions for a post-
graduate research work. I look forward to contributing and working as part of your team along with the British Heart
Foundation to provide new treatment methods though meticulous fibrinogen studies for thrombosis.
