Helen Keller was born in
Alabama, USA un 1880. When she
was 19 months old she caught a
terrible fever. She recovered from the
fever but became deaf and blind as a
result. When Helen stopped making
any noises, her parents took her to see
Alexander Graham Bell, the inventor of
the telephone. He was also an expert
in teaching deaf people to speak. He
said that Helen needed a special
teacher. The Kellers employed Anne
Sullivan, a 20-year-old woman to teach
Helen. Anne taught Helan to “speak
with her fingers when she was 7.
Helen also learnes to read and write in
Braille. Helen surprised everyone
