Digitalisation is the integration of
digital technologies into everyday life
by the digitisation of everything that
can be digitised.
Virtuality reduces the importance of
physical location, new venture teams
can easily co-locate in shared spaces
to benefit from rapid social learning.

Digitalisation
In the business context, digitalisation is
the use of digital technologies to
change a business model, providing
new revenue and value-producing
opportunities;
Digitalisation not only affect start-ups,
but also, scale-up and
internationalisation.

Digitalisation
The Internet of Things (IoT)
More connected devices
Virtual Reality (VR) – the next UX
Artificial Intelligence (AI) - replacing human
intelligence
Emergence of the ‘entrepreneurial ecosystem’
phenomenon
Reality and the human mind will be digitalised

How will people respond to digitalisation?
The pace of technological change is
exponential and it is impossible to escape
In that sense people will have to adapt to
digitalisation even for everyday tasks
Younger generations (millennials) are much
more likely to embrace digitalization and the
concepts behind it as they tend to be more
technology savvy (social media). They were
born at a time where technology was
universally available (eg smartphones,
tablets, wearables…)
It is not a question of responding to
digitalisation but adapting to it
8. @saijamahon @mahondigital
Is human behaviour in sync with rapid technological
development?
There is a big difference between generations;
younger generations are moving more swiftly
with technological trends while older
generations are usually slower to adapt
There is a natural evolution when it comes to
everything digital with people learning new skills
– this is part of human nature, adapt to survive
9. @saijamahon @mahondigital
Some generations tend to be left behind as
technology and digital advances can seem too
complex for them
Smart organisations have recognised that
introducing new technology into the workplace
isn’t about hardware or software: it’s about
wetware, also known as human beings.
Is human behaviour in sync with rapid technological
development?

Leading people in a digital organisation: challenges, benefits?
Challenges
Ensure people have the right digital skills
and understand which tools to use for the
right purposes
Some people are more receptive to
technology than others
Benefits
Information at your fingertips
Vast range of tools to improve
efficiencies and streamline processes:
Basecamp, chat tools, email
Ability easily to track and measure
performance
Improved communications

MANAGING DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION WILL
DETERMINE WHICH BUSINESSES SURVIVE OR FAIL
Consider how these digital organisations have disrupted
industries:
Uber – Digitised the taxi experience and transformed the
transportation service industry
Airbnb – A completely consumer-enabled and digital
experience business model for hospitality
Netflix – Traditional TV industry was disrupted by Netflix

What is digitalisation?
Don’t get left behind in the
Digital Economy
Thank you.
