SETTING CLEAR BOUNDARIES
WORKSHEET “Negotiate Anything
WHAT YOU THINK: BE CLEAR ABOUT WHAT YOU
WANT
1. What is it that you want from this situation?
2. Imagine the perfect scenario. List everything you want: the
ideal price, the ideal scope, the ideal of every thing you could
include in an agreement.
3. Put them in order of importance:
4. Circle the top 2-3 things that you absolutely must get in the
agreement, then write down: START HERE: YOUR GOAL: NO
DEAL:
WHAT YOU SAY: USE CLEAR STATEMENTS What I’ll
say to clearly ask for what I want (try using “I’d like...”
statements):
Examples: “I’d like to hear your ideas.” “I’d like to hear back from
you by Friday.” “I’d like to meet before the end of the day.” “I’d
like you to connect me with that person.” “I’d like for you to write
me a recommendation on LinkedIn.”
Ask questions to find out what’s important to the other person.
Imagine yourself showing this project off to your boss or your
partners; what would the best possible outcome look like? What
would make you the most proud as you’re presenting it?
