KS&DL is facing cut-throat competition in national and

The soap market is dominated by the three major players-
1. Hindustan Unilever Limited
2. Nirma
3. Godrej
While H.U.L has clearly been the market leader
over the last many decades.
Remaining market is held by Godrej, Palmolive, Wipro,
Dabur, Reckitt & Coleman, Mysore Sandal and Medimix etc.

STRENGTHS:
 The factory is located in the heart of the city & has all
infrastructure facilities.
 The company has modern manufacturing facility with
maximum capacity, brand
 A very good dealership network, which ensures that the
products reach every loop and corner.

A very little competition for its major products sandal soap.
An ISO 9001 certified company has its own brand image.
An ISO 14001 company, which commits to reserve the natural
environment in Abundant availability of raw materials.
Two sandalwood oil factories in Shimoga and Mysore, which
produce 75% of world’s sandalwood oil.
Slow growth rate 6.2 growths over 40 years against the product
of 80%.
Power intensive: dependent on power may miscarriage here
may result in utilization of capacity. High oriented cause due to
excessive labour force.
Low turnover resulting in low profits.
Defective marketing strategy lacks effective advertising and
publicity
R&D is not effective in as much as it has not made any brake
through in new products.

 The toilet soap and the detergents market is an over expanding
industry and a major company likes KS& DL with its
manufacturing expertise can call the shots if it
Reaches peak manufacturing capacity.
Good export market should tap foreign market vigorously.
At present it has Good raw material sources to enhance
production.
THREATS
Competition from other global leaders like HUL.
Government interference may reduce growth potential.
As the company depends on forests for its main raw
materials makes the company to find chemical alternative
to sandalwood.
To protect the financial interest of the company.
FINDINGS
 It is a company wholly owned by government, so it has to
follow the rules made by the government.
 The company is under utilizing its capacity.
 Its production is based on old technology, which leads to
wastes in the production process.
 Consumer awareness of its products is very less except for
Mysore Sandal soap.
 It’s products are not available easily in district places of states
other than Karnataka.
 There is mismatch in production & sales activity.

 Their major product, Mysore sandal soap is sold highest in
Tamilnadu, followed by Andrapradesh then Karnataka
 Mysore sandal soap(75g) contributes most share of sales
 UAE is the leading importer of sandal soap
 Market share of co. is about 2%
 Company uses 4% of its turnover for sales promotion activities
 Mysore sandal Centennial soap is launched in year to mark the
100th anniversary of the company.
SUGGESTIONS
People are unaware of many products like Agarbathi,
Detergents, Baby soaps ets
- shows that the lack of marketing.
They should also improve marketing strategy and the
distribution channels
The R&D should work effectively for new products.
The management should design Training and development
programmes and Career Development programs
Should make an attempt to make company records digital
and save it in on the cloud

FINDINGS  It is a company wholly owned by government, so it has to follow the rules made by the government.  The company is under utilizing its capacity.  Its production is based on old technology, which leads to wastes in the production process.  Consumer awareness of its products is very less except for Mysore Sandal soap.  It’s products are not available easily in district places of states other than Karnataka.  There is mismatch in production & sales activity.
